Italeri F-100D in 1/72nd.

Well, this in not one of my favourites as I have several things that went wrong. It is painted in alclad paints and finished with the kit decals.

Nice aluminium finish Gordon, these Alclads are wonderful ... very tempting to find something to use them on myself, just for the record I know that they need black as undercoat but is it matt or gloss?

You were saying lots went wrong. Where???? It is a totally beautiful model,i cannot see anything wrong with it and i wish that my first BMF will be half as beautiful. I love it mate.

OK, some of the defects are not visible in the photo. I had alclad "eating" its way through the gloss black finish and had to start from scratch on the wing tips. There are also a few imperfections and some particles in the varnish which again are not visible on the photos. The panel just behind the cockpit is also not good but that I was supposed to refinish as it can be fixed quite easily. It still has to load its bombs those still need painting.

I used Humbrol gloss black as the base coat. Any gloss finish is supposed to work although Alclad obviously suggest to use their own but I haven't. Humbrol gloss has worked all 3 I've tried till now.

Don't be too humble, that is one beautifully finished model and whatever difficulties you had, it seems that you overcame them and ended up with a winner. After all, i never built anything without any difficulties and without anything going wrong, the important thing is to recover from the mishap and that is just what you did, brilliant recovery, when i build something without problems, that will be the day!!

What is the golden shade at the back called??
My F84 itself has loads of mistakes too dont worry!
Your supposed to use acrylic gloss black, not enamel. maybe thats why

Enamel paint is fine for a base coat for Alclad, I have tried it twice before with different colours of Humbrol paint. Be careful as the colour may still show through the Alclad coating so use a sensible colour. I tried different shades of grey and black for different panels and than applied one coat of aluminium and the effect is good. As for the exhaust part of the F-100, I first applied Pale Burnt metal (ALC-104) and then applied the vertical bands in Jet Exhaust (ALC-113) all on a black coating of course. I think the problem with Alclad penetrating the base coat was actually my fault in applying a layer too thick with the enthusiasm of seeing the nice shine!!

actually it is reacting because the alclad is mixed with laquer and enamel with enamel thinner/white spirit. these 2 formulas do not get along hence the reaction (i think)! i used acrylic and nothing happened. try it out if it keep happening. I used polished metal once and i must say it is very tough to use!

Echoing everyone else's judgement, I see a very well finished model. As Brian says, that will be the day when you build a model without something going wrong!

The finish looks fine to me, although - and I know I am going to make you sick with this - those engraved panels are crying out for some attention. The burnt metal effect is great and although I don't do century fighters myself, the result is very convincing and pleasant.

Paint reaction can be attributed to so many many factors it is very difficult to put your finger on it. Even curing time has to be taken into consideration and weather and humidity conditions also play a very important part in the business.

So what's next?
