    Hey Guys,

I came across this image of a 109, (probably on this forum) with a very interesting marking:

Would be a great project as it definitely has something to do with our history. Too bad only the tail section is visible Neutral

WK number seems to be 5628

    Eureka... found some more info

It appears that the pilot was one Felix Sauer operating with 10/JG 53 from scicily

    [img]https://servimg.com/view/17010021/2]Interesting Marking Sauer-10

He flew a 109F4B (White 3) WNr 7473 according to this web page:

    http://www.adlerhorst-hangar.com/friedrich-113.html

but my earlier image has a different WNr, so definitely another A/c. Which means that this could have been a unit marking or his personal marking on another of his planes.

I'll see what more I can dig up study

    Mystery Solved.

According to Osprey's Aviation Elite Units, JG53 'Pik-As', a bomb striking Malta was the unit heraldry of 10.(Jabo)/JG53 and was worn on the aft fuselage of their 109F's

Here's another pic of Sauer's 109 in the sea:

    Interesting Marking Felix-10

And further proof that this was a unit marking (See White 10 in the background)
    Interesting Marking Iii-jg10

Next step is to include this A/C in my "to build" list Very Happy

lol! I did 'solved' it Marco, Eureka was just an exclamation from my part after I cracked this little riddle. Laughing

This is another fun part of our hobby, solving little mysteries and learning in the process.

I got a couple of more pics of the F Marco, but I haven't come across any Emils yet!

And here's poor Felix in the drink and in hospital:
