    1/700 Sub-Tender

    Post  robert_e on Wed May 23, 2012 9:55 am

My first post features a little diorama with the sub tender IJN Heian Maru and the submarines I-16, I-58 & I-400. The base is roughly 20x30 cm.
I used for the diorama the following models and parts:
    IJN Heian Maru – Hasegawa
    IJN I-400 – Aoshima
    IJN I-16 & I-58 – Tamiya
    IJN Submarine – Tom‘s Modelworks
    IJN Figures – Eduard
    Naval Figures – Eduard
    Vallejo paint

The diorama should have been finished for a club project called "Rising Sun" last October, but as you can see it didn't work out that way.

On a historical note, this “meeting” as shown in the diorama never took place. But I had these models in my stack and thought they would look nice together.

    Hi skyhigh,

as I already mentioned, it's "only" a diorama.

The HEIAN MARU was designated as tender and accommodation ship of Rear Admiral Koda's SubRon 1 for flagship I-11 and SubDiv 2 (I-16, I-19, I-21, I-39, I-40) and SubDiv 15 (I-32, I-35, I-36, I-38, I-41, but I couldn't find any reference that the ships actually met. The HEIAN MARU, the I-400 and I-58 didn't met at all.

Like you already pointed out, it's just a diorama.

    Cheers

    Robert
