    BT-7 whitewashed...(Finished) Empty BT-7 whitewashed...(Finished)

Post  Dottore Fri Apr 06, 2012 5:24 pm

This is the much applauded BT-7 from Tamiya. It is indeed a good kit, though I still think there are areas that need attention...or maybe it's just me after all Laughing
I purchased a PE set from Voyager for this kit, but I could hardly find any area that could have benefitted from the etched metal other than the turned metal barrel which came with the set...
Other areas I detailed as can be seen are the shovel supports and brackets, the headlamp brackets and some small tie downs. I have built the PE tool box but still not sure whether to use it or the plastic one...
I am also undecided whether to leave one front fender off as was often seen in the field and whether to puncture and damage the large etched screen at the top hull (which came with the kit)...
Next up priming and paint! (whitewash)
So kindly let me know what you think!!!!

nothing seems amiss sofar, one small reminder the hub on the first roadwheel must always be in the same position as it is fixed to steering shaft and does not rotate with wheel . see drawings supplied by our venerable mobile encyclopedia for reference

Nice clean built my friend, but if not mistaken there was no weld seem near the window the one you made extra were the panel join also though not a rule the early version had the one whole tool box instead of the split one on the back ... but as I told you Russians so mixed up things especially after Barbarossa that these minorities pass ... white wash please, Moscow or Leningrad version.

There is an interesting scheme as a t34 division that were white washed with areas in green blotches with white lines representing tyre thread marks ...

BT-7 whitewashed...(Finished) Empty Re weld seam

Post  Dottore Sat Apr 07, 2012 10:30 am

Two plates at an angle must be welded together I suppose?! I've seen it on other models so I added it are you sure it should be removed?
I have the split lid shall I change it?
Shall I damage the engine screen what do you suggest? Both fenders on or one off?

    Thanks for looking!

    Nice job Dottore, Very Happy

Just one thing. Marco has posted the pictures of the BT-7 equipped with a short gun. I wuld have mounted the same gun as well. The thing is that, creating a different thing from the kit is always a welcoming challenging option.

But apart from that, the kit seems to be coming along finely.

Shall you be using the kit's links or the Eduard production links. Question

Oooops my mistake the weld is there though much finer, go mixed with BT5, just checked some refs, that's why it looks not there almost ... not a norm for Soviet welds : )

As for opting with or without fenders it's a matter of choice, but if you opt for just one I would damage the other, as of for the back box it's again a matter of taste ... personally I also like it without, gives it a sense of speed ... what I like is the 'cloth hanger' radio mast.

Paul, seems you have not much experience of international competitions how bizarre the rules are ... if you change a turret that means a conversion, yet again changing just a turret will fall into a trap as you'll be challinging heavy/scratchbuilt models, that howitzer is available as a commercial conversion and also as a model by EA but needs much detailing.

Tracks are good enough but knowing sadistic Matthew he loves Friuls : )

    Nice construction Dottore, Very Happy

Looks like it's going to be a master piece. Be carefull of how to finish the winter white washing camo over the Soviet green standard tank colour. Lots of rust, scratch marks, footprints, mud and dirt.

Just remember that these tanks went through hell, as they the first tanks to face the German advance.

    or highlighting...

I didn't go too far ith highlighting since this BT-7 will be whitewashed and I wanted to keep a bit of contrast between the underlying 4BO and the whitewash...

    All comments welcome!

Maybe add some darker shade to the lower part Dot, will help to create more contrast under the white ... keep them coming! Russian armour rocks! We converted you to Stalinist armour now you know what you need to do next year [or before] Twisted Evil

I totally agree with Ivan, you are cool on the highlights but very lacking on the lowlights. you need to put in a lot of dark shading, both on the lower areas and even in between detail. i feel that it would look better, just think where the darker shading would be and go for it.

Thanks for the feedback...but I will be muddying the lower hull...AND adding whitewash...so I feel the effort in low lighting would be lost....
