Yes I did infact I edited my post Embarassed

From the memory of 27yrs past, I thought this had occured during a "Gibli" (SandStorm) that is why I kept thinking this occured in 1985 as I eventually quit Christian Intl. in January/February of 1986 & Gibli's occur mostly in May Suspect

So actually, this event occured before I left the desert in 1986 Twisted Evil

Here is the Narrative, extracted/copied & pasted from Marco's discovered link...
    http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19869999-1:cheers:

5A-DLR approached Giallo at midday in clear weather. The North-South runway was under maintenance and had a 2 metre trench dug across it about halfway along and the southern surface had been removed. The East-West runway was in use. The aircraft touched down normally on the on the South runway and was unable to stop before the trench which it hit at about 50 knots. The port undercarriage leg collapsed and the aircraft slid to a halt on its belly. There were no injuries. The undercarriage, port propeller and fuselage underside were damaged.
The aircraft was still there one year later so was essentially abandoned.

    Quoting Ray from another thread:
Noel, I am back & I am staying here this time bro.......too unstable down there, Desert & Tripoli alike with Toyota pick ups being hijacked & personnel left stranded & shocked & sometimes even slightly wounded from ricochet bullets fired from AK-47's towards the damn TARMAC, as happened the day before I flew in from the desert, with a company car hijacked as it neared a "sleeping policeman" (I know, I know I used to be one ) & hooded gunmen firing in air & the ground

I know Ray! My wife was there for a month and a half and they stayed indoors all the time!!! Even in Tripoli it's dangerous. One evening they were going to a park where kids play.... thank God they cancelled it!!! That evening two groups of militia argued and the intruders decided to get drunk and shot widely at the crowd killing some women and children!!!!!!!

Ray how about getting one of those AK 47's with you next time? They look really nice. I think that overall, things are worse and not better since the revolution. There is too much instability.

That's right brian! Anarchy.......... a state of lawlessness and political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority.

Libyans are starting to say that if this government does not have the balls to control the militias..... than it was better under Gaddafi rule!

Bri, there will be no next time I'm afraid as I'm staying on The Rock for good Evil or Very Mad

Unfortunetly, unless they come to understand that one's FREEDOM stops at the borders of another's FREEDOM, then I'm afraid the War was in Vain Sad

A shame really, as the country has MUCH to offer Twisted Evil  and I can assure the whole World that if we only owned just two Oil Wells out of the MANY there are scattered in the desert, then we would surely say id-Dinja Taghna Lkoll cheers

    Beautiful Ray

One question as you had eyewitness and this has always been an argument over the net ... so from the looks depends the regions or the sun looks like not all sand is the same especially colour, some is yellowish, other is red and I read that in some areas it is also grey ... an other thing and surely you noticed this heavy vehicles sit over the sand how deep it goes ... from the looks tyres do not go so down though teh terrain is dust ... it looks like vehicles fly over the sand Smile This helps mate for dioramas!!!!

Ivan. as you well noticed, the desert is not just plain, boring sand but is made up of different strata, colour & tesxture Twisted Evil

Vehicles & Tyres float or sink according to speed, terrain, tyre pressure & surface area.

In the following pics you can see our fully loaded supply truck SUNK in soft sand pale  and also our pick up truck Sad

In both instances, even though the terrain was SOFT, both drivers even though both of them are brilliant desert rat drivers, were a bit reckless IMHO Suspect

However having said that, the terrain itself can be misleading & as I said, while you can literally fly off the sand at the right speed, the right tyre pressure & the right momentum, sometimes you encounter deep tracks all of a sudden & you instinctively brake affraid  & BAM you're stuck & sunk Sad

I had the pleasure to drive in the desert (mhux suppost ghax ma kellix licenzja tad-desert) obviously guided by a local driver as otherwise I would have ended either in Chad, Sudan, Eygpt or Tunisia lol!

It was fun while it lasted as I said cheers

Whilst i am sorry that you had to give up your job, on the other hand i am happy that you are back full time with us. The club is not the same without you! You made your presence felt even from there but being here is another thing. Welcome back. There might be other opportunities which are less risky and maybe pay well too, who knows.
