Post  bcauchi Fri Jul 26, 2013 3:50 pm

This is my next and current build, the last of a line of 109's. But how can i not have a desert coloured 109 in my collection so we go for one more. With Marco's help, i am converting the model i had in my stash, a Revell G4 Trop into the F4 Trop. Here are some in progress pics.

First two pics are some of the mods carried out, removed air scoops from the nose and removed inspection and fuel hatches and put in new ones.

    Hi Brian.
109F is my favorite. Which one R U going to build?

Take a look at the cockpit pics as they are printed in the original F-4 manual in 1941. There are some details that may help U more.

Marco, i did not have the second link, the one to the seat details. All the photos i found of F's except for just one showed the cockpit with the normal seat so i was not going to use the seat i got from quickboost. I still am a bit lost. Most of the photographed F4's do not have the high backed seat. I was going to use the normal seat, in fact as you can see from my pics i had already modified it with the raised central triangular part. What do you think? Would you use the high backed seat? the photos i have of Red 4 do not show that part of the pit so you can choose any option i think.

Marco, the quickboost seat is spot on like the first type in the reference Chris found, it is totally accurate. I am still in time to use it. Which one would you use?

Modified the cockpit RHS floor detail according to the manual photo.
    Bf109 F4 Trop. Constr46

    Umbrella holders are gone.
    Bf109 F4 Trop. Constr47

Now my only headache for the time being is the seat, which type to use.

The seat from quickboost is an early seat. The work number of Red 4 is 8704 and this was produced from August to December 1941 according to the Schiffer book on the F, G and K versions.  It was the 4th out of 5 batches of F4's produced, so it cannot be called an early F4.  What do you think?

    Hi Brian

According to ersatzteil liste, bf 109F signed on March 1941 the Seat looks like No:3. I guess that you should go for the following one.

So in that case i was using the correct type of seat and don;t need to modify it. It is the standard seat used even on the G series with the triangular 'vee' shaped protrusion on the back.

Although unless the anchor points of the seat belts are shown, that line drawing on the manual could easily refer to both seat types 2 and 3 since the shape of the upper coaming is the very similar, they both have curved edges and a central bulge.

Hi Marco. I do prefer real pics also. It would be a great help to find the specific plane that Brian is gonna build.
I posted the seat part according to the Work Num that Brian mentions above.
I do not know the work nums of these 109fs on your pics. Maybe they come from early production series. Of course there is a possibilty that their seats have been replaced during their service. Who Knows!!!

Maybe a plane with a close Wr Num to Red 4 of 2./ Jg27, could give more answers. You know better than me...luftwaffe themes were and are brain teaser games... lol! lol!
