Nice idea Ray, you should consider a siege dio in the future, maybe an attack by a siege tower or a ram on the walls ...

Wow ray what a great looking fort. There is scope for some real nice action there, a great diorama with a good number of figures.

Yes he did. And his masterpiece diorama "Battle on the ice" was also inspired by the same film. It's an old Patriotic (and propogandistic) 1938 movie by Sergei Eisenstein.

Continued with the painting last night, but not really happy with the result so far Sad I still need to find a better way with this scale. Hope to bring them to the club tomorrow as I certainly need second opinions! Could be that when they are incorportaed in the diorama, they will look good, but I'm not so sure about that. Sorry was too late last night for taking photos, but hope to upload them tonight.

It's quite hard to judge per se from the images, even though your photographer is nothing compared to mine Sad but I think and again judging from the pics that the white for instance needs MORE CONTRAST.....the leather on both horses looks quite ok....

Anyway hope to have a better look this eve, and I'm anticipating a very good and fruitfull meeting as usual cheers

I second Ray on this, Mr Relax I would go that little further and be a bit bold and play around with teh ciaroscuro effects.

Maybe you have already done some contrast but if the camera hasn't captured it means that you need to go that step further. Try it out mate ...

There is certainly more contrast on the real thing, but they still don't stand out as much as I would expect. On the other hand, I'm afraid that the added contrast will make them look less realistic scratch There must be something I'm missing for sure! I scanned the net for small scale painting techniques, but not much info was found Crying or Very sad There are forums dedicated to 72nd. scale, but seems that they are all quite happy with the toy soldierly style and are not that eager to improve Evil or Very Mad I, being the well-baked SSM brother I am, will not stay calm until I crack an acceptable technique bounce...with the help of you brother Knights of course tongue

i am not a figures guy so my opinion counts for sh** but i think that they are great considering their size and the detail you are managing to pick out. there might be the need for some contrast but as you all said, you cannot judge by a photo.

    RayC

When you are working on contrast, realx a bit [you know howLOL] put them aside and give them a look at arms length or more, you will notice if you are overdoing or still not there ... it helps.

I guess especially for such a scale ciaroscuro effects work wonders, remeber teh aproach of the French Fantsy painters we admired in Girona WE, they are masters of lighting effects ...

    Thanks for your comments.

I know what you mean Brian as it's not easy to work in such a small size. In fact, as I said, most of the painted 1/72 figures i see are finished like these and when set up in a scene, will look good. But on the other hand every now and then I come across some models, like those in my other thread and say to myself "I must be missing that crispness which makes the model stand out so nicely".
