Airfix 1/144 Royal Sovreign
Hi all decided to guild this model as the La Reale looks pretty good I've also opened the gun ports on one side to try and make it a bit better than the blanked off gun ports and a stub as a cannon, decided to guild this bit before sticking the cannons in as the guilding would have been more difficult with them sticking out.

Re: Airfix 1/144 Royal Sovreign
Hi all I've decided to do something different with this and it involves this
It flickers just like a real candle and the other one is kaput so I developed a cunning plan so, off with the transom
can you guess where this is going
drilled out the windows
then removed the rest of the window
yes thats right I'm going to RC it, only joking, lighting up the state cabins.

Re: Airfix 1/144 Royal Sovreign
Thanks bcauchi a small update on this, The transom sticks out past the gallaries on the sides and I didnt like the way Airfix just moulded them flat so I've rounded the edges and reguilded them
also the grills on the prow are not moulded all the way through so I drilled all the holes out.
and I've hacked the candle apart and reconfigured it

Lovely effect well done. Are you going to put in some material sheeting to look like the glass in the openings for the windows?

Re: Airfix 1/144 Royal Sovreign
Hi all here is an update on this one. All the guns in place (still got to tie some down) all the closed gunports glued in.
I've discovered that the slots in the grating for the bowsprit tie downs are not there so had to make them.

Wow, now that is really nice and very realistic too, what did you use? The waves are really nice and especially the effects of the bow, well done!!

Re: Airfix 1/144 Royal Sovreign
It's dead easy mate, paint your base colour first(imagine how deep the water is, the deeper the darker the water will apear) ( mine is on a coastal waters so not particularly deep)if you need to remove the ship as with this(to change the batteries, or with my Warspite dio, to make it easier to transport)wrap the hull in cling film, so the sealant dosn't stick to it, if the ship is not to be removed don't worry about the cling film. Get some clear bathroom sealant and spread it over your PREVIOUSLY PAINTED base it needs to be deeper where the bow and port and starboard sides then with a spoon push into the sealant and drag in the direction of the wave with a rapid upwards movement and you will get a peak with a bendy over bit like the tip of a wave as you get farther away from the ship the waves should get less rough, after you have it roughly how you want it use different tools to get finer waves also you can let it go off then add more hight to bow waves as needed. Hope you understand what I've said, I could do a pictorial guide of how I do it if not. I am sure others on here could teach you more realistic effects.ps sorry forgot to add paint the tips of the waves with white paint.

Re: Airfix 1/144 Royal Sovreign
Great! I thought that you used silicone sealer but was not 100% sure because you really managed to make it stand like a wave. It normally swoons down to a blob if you try to prep it up. That is a really great idea. Lovely work.
