    Toyota GT1 TS020 - Le Mans Series

    Post  5Nige on Wed Aug 12, 2015 11:21 pm

Finally with a slightly cooler weather energy levels are being replenished sufficient enough to drive this build to a finish.  Been toiling over it, on and off (more off) for 18 months.

Kit is from Tamiya, decals from Hobby Design (courtesy of Manuel Zammit), photo etch fret from Studio 27 plus lots more of other etch bits.

    Anyhow works completed so far:

    " />

    Doors chopped off

    " />

    " />

Spray ready for first clear coat

    " />

This was followed by carbon fiber decals, where I had to created all templates.  Laborious yet a very satisfying outcome.

    Cockpit area:
Extensive rework of the interior, with details including seat flocking and seat belts, electronic boxes scratch building, and wiring, extinguisher wiring, and the creation of the flip switch panel having at least 20 labelled flip switches in 1/24 scale.  Yes many outside our hobby may call us crazy but these details are our pride, and YES we modelers strive to build exact replicas.

Breathtaking. By the way how did you make the exquisite labels for all the switches and other controls. they are perfectly legible although in such a small size, totally amazing. If this is a foretaste of things to come, really looking forward to the engine.

Brian, I was lucky to acquire those labels as ready made decals from a guy on a foreign forum some time ago. Needless to state placing them correctly, and those flip switches, I established a further limit to my patience!

Thanks to all of you guys for your kind words of encouragement. I will take some more photos and post this week-end before continuing.

Hubert & Ray - I'm ok, summer is just all hassle for me. Do not worry, still am a loyal SSM member and, God willing, will return back to the club towards end September.

As promised, progress to date on the engine bay, including engine and part fitment of ancillary items:

    " />

    " />

    " />

Engine on its own prior to fitment:

    " />

    " />

    Turbo air intakes:

    " />

Radiators and radiator covers (side pods) with logo sprayed on:

    " />

    " />

    Tyres complete with air valves:

    " />

One of the next main challenges - to fit the wire looms, one to each engine side:

    " />

    Till next update.

More updates.  Added the cylinder head covers, brake air coolers and wheel rim cooling as well.  For the brake air air coolers shrink tube over thin wire was scratch built, whereas for the wheel rim cooling this was not possible as the plastic part was not to be eliminated.  Instead thin wire was first wound over the plastic part, thereafter teflon (thread) tape followed by black acrylic paint.

Next challenge, fitting the wire looms.  Hope to be in enough a calm mood when fitting these.
