Joe the underside should be gunship grey not black....

I love how you handle camos Joe, do you work in layers of glazes, or you just atrat the pattern with thin paint and then built it up with thicker?

You are right, but in part. The underside color of the spad was in either light grey, dark grey(gunship grey) or black. For this particular aircraft the underside is black, the underwing pylons still have to painted in light grey.

This aircraft will be finished as "bubbles 'n bust" 39-778. The decal instruction advice on a white cowl ring, but uptill now I haven't found a pic of this aircraft with a white cowl ring, but they also state that it was green at one point(this is confirmed)

thanks, what I do it spray on the camoflage, no shading, just the layout. Then I spray all panel lines black. Next I start spraying the camouflage colors, one at a time, with paint thinned, but not to much and build it slowly layer by layer until satisfied. Next step is to apply the next color the same way. Obviously any overspray has to be corrected. In this case I starter brown - green - dark green. There is still room for improvement, so any comments/suggestions are wellcome.

You work like this for soft edge camos Guz? If it is hard edge do you just mask and keep the same technique ... I like it that you work in layers, it keeps showing the panels and variation in the area ... nice touch mate!

yes it is the same principle when using masking for hard edge, but the masking makes life easier

Does the green on the 'missile' look so thin/faded because its a very thin layer? or does it have a lighter shade of postshading over the green?

the paint work on the F-104 is just coverage, no shading or anything, just sprayed the approx layout of the camo.

Yes Joe the instruction is comfirmed ,that the cowl was green or white here is the photo....

Thanks Marco for the tip. I will stick to the green cowl with black undersides. If I go for the white cowl, will have to respray the underside light grey.
