Whats the difference between lacquer and varnish or they are the same? If not when one would use lacquer and the other?

To be honest, that question always puzzled me! Mad
whats the difference between gloss coat and gloss laquer? and when to use them?

I have used both and found that...laquer is VERY thin, smells VERY strong! almost like alcohol and dries VERY quickly. While gloss is thicker and takes longer to dry. finishes are almost the same. though laquer, being thin, gets absorbed easily (when brushed on i found) i think laquer gives you a smoother finish? Though last time i used it... i got orange peel :/

Thats what i have discovered through using them both. But i still would like to know their uses and differences.... Neutral Twisted Evil

    Hi Adrian!

I only used varnish so far but always confused myself what's the difference between lacquer and varnish. To get a glossy look the varnish always did the job for me but I don't know if lacquer is better or not and if it has the same effect of varnish.

Even I do not know the exact difference between, lacquer and varnish, maybe lacquer is stronger and more resistant to handling and things like that but it is more yellowish than varnish. I have used them both, personnaly I prefer the Revell varnish, gloss and matt.
