Α little update today, since the Lightning was primed, pre-shaded (unfortunately forgot to take photos...) and given the first colour coat using Testord Stainless Steel from their Metaliser range...

Here it is with a coat of primer (Hycote grey)

Great work there Thanos, love all the hardware you added. Did you buff the metallizer or not yet? Looks very raw. Beautiful detailing job.

    Thank you Brian!!!
I used Model Masters metalizers on this one, although I think I should have used Alclad...Anyway, some pictures show the Lightning pretty weathered, whereas some others (well, most of them...) show it shiny and polished...I guess that must be some kind of protective anti-corrosion treatment...

    Any suggestions???

Thanos, is that metallizer buffed? If it is, it needs to be redone. If you redo it, DO NOT for whatever reason use the sealing medium from Testors. It just ruins the entire metallic effect. Use any other gloss varnish to seal it in but not the one from Testors. I even tried Future and it worked well.

Great detail work you have done, very well done indeed. Is it the F2A version? About the metallic finish and judging from the pictures, I am not that convinced about the overall effect. On a small note, the gun ports look too shallow.

Well, I'm a bit confused with all those marks and the conversion........I think yes. As for the metallic finish, it's not over yet...and the gun ports are the kit items...

Thank you so much for your notes my friend!!! Smile

And now the big guns............The Lightning was painted with Alclad paints after some panels had been coated in black gloss enamel. Gloss varnish came next for the decals, which were positioned without any trouble. Next - and final - update will include some weathering, matt varnish and all the tiny details!!!

I think it looks good however, you need to have the demarcation on the nose anti dazzle panel a bit neater. Also, i don;t know why your bare metal finishes are so dull. What finish did you use? It needs a bit more sheen and somehow it has lost its metallic look.

The demarcation lines will be corrected along with some other details on the way!!! As for the metal finish, some panels were masked and sprayed with gloss black enamel and then the whole model was given a coat of Alclad aluminium...I didn't want it to be that glossy and shiny... Rolling Eyes

    Thank you Brian anyway!!!!!!

I can understand your concern about having a shiny model but with metal finishes, if you dull them a lot they loose the metal effect. In my opinion, and this is only my opinion, it needs a bit of sheen to retain the metal effect. When it is too matt, the surface somehow starts to look grainy and sprayed.
