ANOTHER STRANGE ONE THE "RUSSO BALT" 1919 Empty ANOTHER STRANGE ONE THE "RUSSO BALT" 1919

Post  alexbb Fri Mar 05, 2010 4:24 pm

THIS IS A MODEL OF ONE OF THE FIRST RUSSIAN ARMOURED CAR, IT DATES BACK TO THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION OF 1919. UNLIKE THE FIAT ARSENALE THIS ONE WAS A NIGHTMARE TO BUILD. TERRIBLE RESIN HORRIBLE FIT AND EVEN WORSE DETAIL. THE WHOLE THING WAS FIRST SANDED DOWN SMOOTH, NEW HATCHES, DOOR AND AN ALMOST COMPLETE SCRATCH HOOD, HINGES, VISORS ETC ETC WHERE ALL SCRATCHBUILT BUT MOST TIM ECONSUMING WHERE THE RIVETS THEY WHERE ALL REPLACED WITH NEW PLASTIC RIVETS AND AS YOU KNOW YOU CANNOT USE LIGUID CEMENT TO STICK PLASTIC TO RESIN SO THEY HAD TO BE DONE WITH SUPERGLUE.
I USED THE KITS CHASSIS EVEN THOUGH ITS NOT THAT GOOD, MAINLY BECAUSE MOST OF IT WILL NOT BE VISIBLE IN THE END.

    Lovely nightmare Alex pale Embarassed

I know that the rivets would take a lot of punishment from your handling, but I've stuck some plastic buttons on MS or Duro using liquid cement, with good results but then again I repeat that those rivets would not withstand your onslaught for sure if not SUPERGLUED Twisted Evil Laughing

Looking good Alex, very cool indeed. Your extra work paid off. You are right, you only kept the basic parts. All the detail you put on looks really good.

ANOTHER STRANGE ONE THE "RUSSO BALT" 1919 Empty Some questions.....

Post  Dottore Sun Mar 07, 2010 7:18 pm

First of all...madman cousin for tackling such a horrible kit.... Razz

    1. The green looks very dark...is it a preshade ? Weathering such dark tones will be hard if not...and weathering is likely to darken it even further...

    2. Why didnt u use Archer rivets...think they are much easier to place than supergluing plastic rivets....

    3. What wire did u use for the handles on the hood...I'm looking for wire that is soft enough to have the ends flattened with a plier...(seems thats what u have done). Is it solder, stun?

    Keep them coming Sandro...

    Dottore cat

PS should post something of my own soon...getting inspired LOL

well matt its still not dark enough, the reference on this vehicle is sparse but all agree that it painted in a black green livery. yes the handles are .4 solder wire and i would give you some if i had any but cous alex has a whole roll so why dont you ask him?

p.s archer rivets too small and shallow

    no ray
i have some old ex raf solder(stan u mhux as doc says stun) reel which is about 0.4mm(still in imperial meas) it is ideal for grab handles wireing cables because of its maelability and thickness or should i say thinness.
