Hi guys.
Probably, you Know each other quite well. Like a family. I wish to write a couple of words for me. Some of you are good friends of mine. Recently I joined your IPMS club as a member. I'm very proud being with you.
My name is Alex Kontiveis. I'm 39 years old, and live in Greece. Actually in a small island of NorthEast Aegean, called Lesvos or Mytilene.
I have studied Mechanical Engineering at Patras Technological Institute. I never worked as an Engineer. I followed the way of advertisement and Graphics applications for 13 years. Nowadays I own a print-shop for large format printing jobs, like car & bus wrapping etc.
I love aviation themes. I tried twice to become a pilot, but i didnt manage! Anyway, I began modeling in 1979 as far as i can remember. Nothing serious. More than 100 Matchbox 1/72 kits, OOB builds, painted with watercolors! 12 paper models in 1/12 scale followed at the age of 13. All of them were burned!! One of them ( a Mirage 2000) managed to save it self resting in a window of my old High school, as the best hand made job. Anyway, many models followed till my studies begin. All of them are destroyed or became toys for my son! When i came back to my Island, I organized my workbench, and i began from the beginning. More and new tools, more convenience.
I build WWII aviation themes only. I dont like Jets. I'm not good. I like scratch building, trying to avoid aftermarket improvements. I believe that modeling is Creation not just an Assembly. I belong at the "old" school of modellers here in Greece. I never liked prices and competitions. I never earned anything. I'm against. I like to show my work, to talk with other modellers, asking for their opinion, tips etc.
I believe that we are ALL, equal. I'm not better than U, you are not better than me. I want to admire a good job, not being jealous of your success.
All these are the believes of "old" school's modellers in Greece. That's the main reason HELMO (Hellenic Modellers Group) was created in 2005.
That's all. That's me.
Alex.
PS...forgive my poor English..
