Bision I - SBS (Start Pictures)

Post  Noel Petroni on Fri Mar 05, 2010 6:38 am

After the Sherman diorama I started this.

I'll have pictures of the construction stage posted soon. However this is just a note to show that as soon as you finish one model ..... YOU START THE NEXT!!!

And not start a new one while the paint is drying on the first model?

will you be depicting the model as illustrated in picture ?
another stange and unwieldy vehicle. this goes to prove that the germans did not just build tigers and panthers but even next to useless vehicles like this one.

    I guess...

Post  Dottore on Sat Mar 06, 2010 1:02 pm

Its a self propelled howitzer (correct me if I'm mistaken Alex)so it wouldnt be expected to take much opunishment just protect the crew from small arms punishment....

If this was a failure than the various Marders, Priests etc were too i suppose...

    DOTT CUS
MAYBE YOU CAN EXPLAIN THE FACT THAT THEIR CREWS HATED THEM SO MUCH SO, THAT SOME OF THEM JUST TOOK THE GUN OFF THE CHASSIS PUT BACK THE WHEELS ON AND HAD THE GUN HORSEDRIVEN ?

    P.S.
THE HEIGHT, SMALL CHASSIS AND TOP HEAVY ARRANGEMENT MADE THIS VEHICLE PRACTICALLY UNUSABLE EXCEPT ON ROADS AND HARD LEVELLED EARTH

Dottore note that you have a big massive howitzer [for the period] placed just a minitank the size of 500!

This was a good howitzer, only the concept was naive, but there is a nice footage of one blasting a house out after they were shot upon by a sniper, this was the forrunner of the short gun urban warrior like the Brumbar.

Noel this is the third time tackling this gun, seems you have a softspot eh? Looking forward for your version, is it gonna be panzer grey or snow camoed?

Thanks for the interest guys! I'll be posting some pic of the initial build tomorrow, Sunday! Just now I was airbrushing the bicycles!

As Ivan and Alex rightly pointed out, it was a good gun but the concept to mount it on a Panzer I was slightly ridicules!

38 were converted from Ausf B tanks in February 1940 and they served with six heavy SP infantry gun companies with survivors in service into 1943. The gun was mounted complete with limber onto the Panzer I chassis. It had a crew of 5.

@ Ivan, you're right I got attached to this gun. I had built the Verlinden Sig33 Resin gun but found out that it was over scale... not 1:35. DO YOU HAVE THE LINK TO THE FOOTAGE THAT YOU SPOKE ABOUT?

@ Alex, I think I'll display it in France, in the panzer grey colour, with some dusty weathering.

Maybe it was something to do with the technology and mentality of the time that self propelled guns and APCs were open compartments. The british mkIX was the first fully enclosed APC and in WWI, but soldiers in these tanks hitching a ride were actually incapacitated because of fumes.

Invest in an armorscale barrel including rifling this time buddy Surprised

Regarding the open tank idea, it really showed these started as a makeshift idea, almost on the field modification, just remember it was designed during Blitzgrieg age, Germans were pushing not retreating so they thaught they will not be confronted with sever counterattacks till they met the russian front ...

    Some more update....

Starting to look the ugly shape!!!

    Interior

    Airbrushed

    Painted and chipped

    Wash of Raw Umber

I didn't take any particular care to paint, chip and weather the interior because much of it will not be clearly visible.
