    Scale Modelling School

Post  Joseph on Tue May 11, 2010 4:02 pm

Thanks to David, who originated the idea, we would like to explore the possibility of organising a ‘Scale Modelling School’ during the Summer holidays. These courses would be mainly directed towards the younger generation, older than 8-10yrs. The aim is to have between 8-10 sessions of 2½hrs each during Saturday mornings. These courses will be self sustained thus each participant will have to pay a nominal fee, this will also serve as a commitment from those attending and us. It has also been decided that tutors will be given a small remuneration. We are hoping that at least we will get about 12 students for these courses.

Mainly we are looking for a minimum of 4 tutors, these need to commit themselves towards these courses, I think that the first session would be on the first Saturday of July and the last one in mid September with a two week break in August.

Those of you who are willing to deliver these courses or need to clarify any item please come forward.

This is just a draft and needs a lot of polishing so as soon as we have enough tutors to deliver we start the proper organisation.

Another idea is that one or more session would be a father & son/daughter approach towards scale modelling. We can further enhance these courses by delivering some tuition with regards to school projects (such as the one I did – obviously not in that detail)

If anyone can think of a better name for these courses please mention, maybe we can also design a logo.

    Great idea!!

In fact I've been thinking on the same lines whilst writing some points for the EGM next week.

I was going to suggest to start targeting the children's interest and have a large table during HIS where children can sit down and construct a simple model free of charge and SSM members will be there to guide and instruct. . Of course this will have to be advertised beforehand. I'll be even suggesting to approach state schools and handing a leaflet of HIS (a week before exhibition) describing what there will be at the exhibition. THe leaflets can be handed out (with permission of the head master/mistress) to classes with the appropriate age group.

I have much more other ideas to convey

    Regards
    Noel

PS: tutoring on Saturday will be impossible for me due to work.

Last Saturday we had the 1st lecture, in all we have 9 students who are all eager to master their skills on scale modelling. Here are some photos taken during this session.

For next Saturday we need some volunteers to assist during lectures as students are very demanding Smile Smile

Aldo/David if you have time post your photos as well.
