What is your most recent modelling discovery (as in tools or paints etc) that you really found useful and wouldn't do without these days?

For me its Gator Glue...a water soluble super glue that gives you minutes of workability before drying out. Really useful!

Do you mean it takes minutes to dry out?
Does it FOG transperancies or any surrounding areas?
Does it get dislodged with water like the other superglue?

It looks like white glue but it is not....

    Has the same consistency...
You apply it...then I use a small brush with water to wipe off the excess after i join the parts...

In a few minutes it has a firm bond...after around 30 minutes it is stuck. What makes it really useful is that I can move around the part until it is in the right position....then wipe off the excess and let it dry.

I discovered it when trying to place engine deck meshes. Normal glue wouldnt work as if the mesh landed out of place it would be stuck....no time to move it around! It was recommended to me from another forum and havent left it since!

And no it doesn't fog clear parts.

    This link explains further....

PS AFAIK superglue HARDENS with water (ie accelarates drying) not dislodges it! I may be wrong but I doubt it!

Post  Ray Wed Oct 21, 2009 2:16 pm

I'm baffled to say the least by this Gator Glue Twisted Evil I mean baffled for the worst ta Sad

MY BOTTLE (which Jos sent for and I presume he's got the same consignment date on his) is not performing according to the positive acclaims by Doc Roe here on this forum and in this thread, and also by Alex (where I asked him last Wed at club)

Maybe I'm pretending TOO MUCH from this Gator Glue, or else I'm not giving it ample time to get STUCK, but according to Joseph, he tried his and unstuck whatever he stuck the night before, just the day after Sad

So this is what I'm gonna do pale Embarassed
I'll bring MY BOTTLE and some plastic scraps NEXT WED the 28th Oct and am gonna PLEAD with Aleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeex to DEMONSTRATE LIVE PLS Evil or Very Mad

haven't used this glue, so I can't really comment, but according to reviews it is flexible and water actually can be used to clean, debond and thin which makes me a bit sceptical about its properties as to whether use it instead of the so called traditional super glue.

According to the review, it is the mother of all glues, its properties seem to be really good. I am really tempted to try it out. Superglue does pose certain problems becasue of its instantaneoue drying properties.

Yes it is tempting INDEED Brian, that's why I got a bottle but as I stated earlier Joseph's and my bottle are not sticking/glueing, or maybe we're doing something WRONG Embarassed pale

I am reviving this thread for the benefit of Marco the newcomer, who is a very promising AFV modeller (weldone for that Tiger construction bro) & he asked me from where he can get the famous Gator Glue, so he can go thru this thread as well in the meantime to get some feedback re this matter Laughing

I wish to add that Gator Glue is very very good, so my negative comments are revoked & I think I made a formal apology/thank you to Doc Roe somewhere here on this forum on another thread for sure Twisted Evil
