    Sherman Whitewash.... Empty Sherman Whitewash....

Post  Dottore Mon Aug 10, 2009 11:20 pm

As the song goes...IT HAS ONLY JUST BEGUNNNNNNN.....
The idea here is a predominantly white Sherman with the OD showing thru the chips. First run of scratches. Hairspray method. Model not sealed so can still chip some more if I please....Some areas like periscope guards and light guards will be 'chipped ' by brush rather than scrubbing/hairspray as too delicate to take that much punishment.
What do you think guys....more scratches and chips or am I there or almost?
Stowage on the rear needs better 'sit'
I'm ready for the flak so fire away....
    Dottore

PS this is meant to be ready for euro.....if God Wills it!
PPS Ok lousy pics I know....

    Good start Mat,

Finally a decent Sherman looking like a wedding cake tongue

I would have added some liniar scratches on the sides especially near the front area, ideal to do with a tooth pick but do not exagerate them. On the top especially near hatches IMO needs some retouching delicatly with minute scratches or done with a 0000 steel wool [used for spray finishings] or else some sponge painting in the usual OD. Near the barrel's end needs to be chipped as well ... if it had the chance to shoot!

Did USA had a recession in WW2? Were they saving white paint by not painting the wheels? Shocked ... that is the way to win the war, making your tanks cannon fodder to the 88s!

Rules for AFV painting class - it is the modellers decision to make terrain or not but always properly presented on a plinth/base etc.

Isma dot, prosit, that is looking really nice, how did you do the paint chipping? It is very cool and realistic. i tried using the salt method and i think it works well for aircraft. the chippings are usually more controlled and smaller in size except for certain cases. I was very happy with the result. i also tried painting them on. On an AFV i think i would paint them on but on a plane, the salt works best. It is controllable but still there is an element of randomness in the way they turn out.

    Sherman Whitewash.... Empty Hairspray method....

Post  Dottore Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:48 pm

First time I used it on a model...ideal for large chipping jobs its the only way I think...albeit needing additional touch ups of other chips here and there...here is the best link available about hairspray technique...I'll get the model tonight at the club if you need further clarification!

Sherman Whitewash.... Empty Final chipping and more whitewash....

Post  Dottore Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:20 pm

After taking the advice of my more experienced esteemed AFV colleagues and SSM friends I have whitewashed the suspension and rear plate...even though it will be virtually covered in mud....

Also added more chips and linear scratches to the sides....
    Next up...
    Pin wash...
    rain marks
    Filters
    Chip high lights
    mud
    pigments

Why are you afraid to scratch this baby? Imagine li gbidt xi hajt tas sejjieh u fottejt l-ispray ( or is it spraim). I think that your scratches are way too neat and composed, they should be more random on the sides.
