My next WWI project will be Hobbycraft's 1/32 Nieuport 17, finished as Billy Bishop mount.

Following are pics of the 'Starter Pack' offered by Hobbycraft Smile , not much but at least outline is correct. I will up-date kit with some scratchbuilt items, PE from Tom's modelworks, a resin engine by Vector models and a new resin cowl and wheels from Master Casters.

I have removed all wing ribs to make my own.

Will keep you posted with progress Smile

Looking forward to this Joe. I am sure it will be another masterpiece just like your previous build. You are getting hooked on these WWI planes.

    Already looking nice Joseph?

But how come you chose the Nieuport for Billy's mount, the S.E.5a might look another nice ride for him ... or is the size that is a problem?

Another option for the Neiuport might still be a colourful French or Italian fighter?

Ray remember there is Enzo Baracca by Pegaso and a Mike Good sculpt I think [though if not mistaken he used to fly Spads]

Good to see this one up and running - This a good kit, well worth the extra stuff, Best Billy Bishop is the ModelCellar/Mike good one,

Joseph - has Karaya brought out there PE stuff for the SE5A yet, do you know......?

Also Radu at RB Productions has just brought out the British Rigging set as PE, that you might want to try, it comes with turnbuckles already attached at one end, because the British Rigging was an aerofoil(Flat) but the German was round cable...... as you already know.

Billy Bishop only flew an SE5 and not an SE5a, there is no kit of an SE5 so I opted for the Nie17 rather than a conversion Smile Also the Nie17 will be depicted as that during the lone attack on a German aerodrome.

No decals for the Nie17, all markings will be sprayed, only the serial number B'1566 will be done as adecal.

The Nie17 will be finished in doped aluminium, I will use a different tone for wings (fabric) and fuselage (wood) and blue engine cowl, wheel cover colour is still in doubt, still to do some more research.

Dave, never saw the Karaya details set for the SE5a, MisterKit of USA has a PE detail set for the SE5a and it looks OK, which kit do you have of the SE5a. As yet has never used the aerofoil rigging, I think it is a bit tricky in handling, the NIe17 has the wire type of rigging.

Thanks for all comments and interest shown, will keep you posted.

    Hi Joseph

I was looking at the Wingnuts kit along with the Albatros and Sopwith Pup that is coming out. If you have a look at the link below, its for the Karaya LVG stuff that is out, I couldn’t find the SE5a, take a look. Its on the Aerodrome....

This is gonna be an interesting project, Jus check the Alclad range of metalics, the results are outstanding as their pigment is so smooth, apart they have a good range of aluminium colours ... probably Tony still have some stock ...

Checking out apart this daredevil, he looked to be one maniac, daring more then once on a lone wolfhunt ... though he got a VC for his aerodrome exploit, but again according to Weikipedia it is controversial of how many aircraft he manged to destroy, probably the story was exagerated by him due that no one was witness and all German docs got lost as well ... still it was a brave and daring mission to at least venture so much into enemy territory!

New to me that for the RFC painting cowling in Blue marked you as an ace ...

Looking forward for this one ... Ray think alos about Enzo Barracca and Richtofen brothers for a future project!

As to Enzo Barracca and Lothar (x'nitkessah dal-ghodu) it will be up to Joseph to decide as he's in charge of the mounts Cool
