Here's what I am mainly working about at the moment. The new Airfix Hawk 120D demonstrator which visited Malta at least a couple of times. Quite a good kit at a reasonable price. Will need another to make the Indian option which also passed through Malta on delivery! The T-45 Goshawk is the Italeri kit which was quite some things missing since it was issued at the early prototype stage of the real aircraft. Since I took the photos I have been modifying the leading edge slats as after I scribed them I made them too short at the wing roots as they end right up at the intakes edge. The Sea Fury is Trumpeter's 1/72nd version (JF is currently showing us his EXCELLENT 1/48th in the making). Tomorrow for some airbrushing...

Great stuff Gordon, don't keep them to yourself, let's see them in the flesh.

Re: Currently on my workench.
Gave each a coat of paint. The Sea Fury is MM Sky, now masking for the dark sea grey in progress. The Hawk 120D was given a gloss black (H21) coat, now some alclad for the metallic parts (OK these are painted on the real aircraft not NMF but I'll try to replicate them) and the Goshawk was the problem of the trio. I tried once again Nitro cellulose white to avoid yellowing, but it proved once again a difficult task to airbrush even with the large nozzle/needle.

I never knew cellulose prevents yellowing

Re: Currently on my workench.
Here's the progress to date. Trumpeter's roundels are out of register and I think I will sand them off and repaint the areas and search for suitable replacements. I also discarded the "invasion stripes" for the Korean war as the fuselage bands are printed in straight lines!! Hawk 100 decals are quite tricky to apply as they are very large and need to go round a lot of details, let's hope for the best. The Goshawk needs the anti-glare panel and some small touch ups on aerials, etc.

Looking very good, and really like the Goshawk very much. The Sea fury also looks nice, about the roundels, have a look at Xtradecal 72041, from Hannants.
Just a question about the Hawk 100, is the silver ready, or you need to re touch, as some areas are still showing black.?
Keep up the good work and keep posting.

Re: Currently on my workench.
Where it's black should be covered with the black decals (and a large part of the silver as well), hopefully!!
Major modifications on the Goshawk include squaring the wingtips as Italeri's are the standard Hawk wings, engraving the leading edge slats as Hawks do not have these and enlarging the ventral fin.

I understand, and this is just a suggestion, when you got large areas that are to be covered by decals (in this case black) I think that it would be better if the color is actually sprayed. I know it is difficult and time consuming, but the overall effect is much better, and also lessens the problems with appyling decals to a complex surface.

Yes Joe you are totally right! But the masking is so complex (just look at the decals) that I gave up masking it! Now if this does not work, I'll sand it and give it a coat of grey and Indian markings.

Love your work Gordon, beautiful colour schemes. i just think that the gray on the sea fury is a bit too dark. but i might be wrong here so better wait for Marco's comments. That way you can't go wrong.

Re: Currently on my workench.
The grey is Humbrol 123 which is Extra Dark sea grey. In the photos it appears a little darker mostly because of the white background I suppose. Here are some updates on the Hawks. The Goshawk is finished, but after I removed the masking from the canopy, I found that it cracked on both sides, I think because of the dividing screen between the cockpits, which fits a little tightly. I built another 4 Italeri Hawks and none of them showed this problem! Also the edges on the canopy are not perfect.

Nice job on both. i can see the metallic finish on the Mk120 fuselage got ''rubbed'' a bit. same happened with my F84

Re: Currently on my workench.
The Navy jet is really nice but i don;t really like the silver on the other one. There are too many paint flakes showing.
