I have an old Life Magazine, I think from the late 60s where a guy tried this same thing, I think he only got up to something like 104,000 feet and didn't quite break the speed of sound. I thought the pictures in that article were incredible, but this was also so cool!

Year, this guy was actually trying to go higher, but he started having a malfunction with his suit and jumped. I don't remember if his blood and just started to boil or if he got the bends or what happened, but he was in pretty bad shape, but I believe he lived, although the time of the article, they didn't know if he would or not. Just the thought of going supersonic with only your body is mindbending.

Yeah the other man was Kittinger and was sitting next to him at the conference, after the jump, this guy actuall broke 3/4 records.

    1. highest jump from 128,100 feet, beating the previous record of Joseph Kittinger from 102,800 feet set in 1960
    2. highest manned balloon altitude of 113,740 ft set in 1961
    3. fastest speed in freefall 1,342 kilometres per hour (834 mph) Mach 1.24
    4. he did not make it to the longest time in freefall by 17 seconds :S he managed to stay 4 mins 19 secs

The man surely have guts of steel, popping out of that capsule watching our planet beneath his feet.....

The altitude he was at, is the same lenght of Malta x 1.5 (Malta lenght = 27 Kms x 1.5 = 40 Kms) he was at 39 Kms up
