Is the Doge of Venice Francesco Morosini's harness suitable for a Knight of Malta Ivan? I know it may sound a silly question but for the benefit of a discussion (Marco qed gas down bil-pics u l-info u qed jaghddina qatieh) a small explanation by you, would not do any harm for the lurkers of the forum

I saw this figure for the first time during WE 2000 in Glasgow....it was part of Jesus Gamarra's awesome display

Hi Ray

During our visit in Catania last December Franco [owner of Masterclass] told me that we are to expect a 16c armoured knight, I am wondering if he was refering to this exquiste Doce by Laruccia. This morning as i saw the news over planetf my mind was thinking on your same wavelength [great minds think alike they say ...LOL].

Speculating a bit I think with some tweaking this gem of a figure can be turned into a high ranked knight. They had a way to pose with such decor and pampalonia, being the grand aristocrats and wealthy of Europe. So a little inside about the armour. The armour is a milanese half armour type, NB though that he has leg protection much more associated with cavalry. Lucky we have some good items at our Armoury in Valletta. Thinking aload my first idea went to a GM of the order, dressed with a rich cloak fit to a king as is the Doce here, but then I came back to land, alas to us we almost have record of all the GM armours, of memory I can't remember any posrtrait of any GM dressed with this type but again I have to recheck my referances better ... of note we know that we had some GM that were very fond of horsemenship, including Verdala. Unfortunetly most of the periodic portraits of GM of that particular period are in full armour, but as usual never say no till we have some more concrete referances ... this is a must have kit and I give it my 100% and probably will get one, I just like to conferm with Franco if theese are newly cast or re-packed old EMI stock as EMI had some nasty pitting, I experienced some bad casts myself ...

Forgot to mention also this gem, which is again available under Masterclass and is a very good potential candidate for GM Manuel de Vilhena, we have a magestic statue for referance, Floriana near our old show place ...

However that Landsnecht we spoke about at club is top of my list I always thought that it was 120mm

you are so right Ivan, he looks just like Vilhena. It would be brilliant to portray him like that.

Yep mate been in the pipeline for some years this idea, hope I manage to realise in the near future, contemplating on the Doce found out that at the period depicted 1668, in Malta we had GM Nicholas Cottoner, the man who made famous by home town, Cospicua, would be appropriate making the old man as well! Here is his bust, during the re-placment at the Cottonera gate after restoration ...

Let us face it no GrandMaster was the look alike of Brad Pit, apart that La Vallette just look like Sean Connery [am I instigating something to Hollywood here ] ... but let us face it we do not lack referances in our tiny island, thank God for the Hospitaller's legacy!

Tiny La Valette was french, and yes we have locals who look like the Hollywood stars, await till elections arrive, you see many nice faces on billboards!
