IFRIR, Hospitaller Crusading Knight Empty IFRIR, Hospitaller Crusading Knight

Post  iCocker Sat Jul 24, 2010 4:41 pm

Been ready for some time but had some issues with the black before I could fotoshoot this fig ...

Here is my version of Romeo's excellent 75mm crusader, I could not resist putting him in the Hospitaller's colours, I thought of giving him a different ambience then the usual. Have seen too many knights sweating in the sun, as if winter never came to the middle east ... in a good number of chronicles we read about heavy rain and bad weather ... so thought of having a go for different weathered 'Ifrir' - the name given by saracens to the knights; defender of a pilgrim route on their way to the Holy Land!

    Hope you like ...

    Ivan

Great IFRIR Ivan, your best to date IMHO (maybe coz he's a Hospitaller) Twisted Evil

Great setting effects, with the drenched ground, wind blown vegetation (that leaf on the kappa is just genial Cool ) and the overall tonality of weather beaten attire, from metal, to cloth thru leather I love you

Great pics as well, which pierce thru your efforts unscathed cheers

    God Wills It cheers

Thank you mate, Ifrirs always have a place in our studio : ) ... finally managed to solve the Black issue, could not believe acrylics would get me so much trouble, but I guess the problem resulted from a bad tube of colour as well! Unfortunetly had to recall for varnish and retouch again the deep shadows ... regarding the fotos, me as well was quite surprised, just took them this morning in natural light and some reflectors, probably the little haze we had this morning helped to get rid of the glare ... will see hwen they pass the test in Photoshop now to calibrate colours better!

    Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Something about the wind effect, tough not inspired by this weekend forecast ... the long grass is artificial fur already coloured but retouched with airbrush. This was the most hard work as it was worked strand by strand to get the exact 'wave' position. This has been inspired from a vintage figure of a Scottish officer by Latorre. The leaves which add more to the blast are oregano leaves, glued up with Gator glue ...

Alex, I would really like Ian to tackle a medieval subject/army he'll surely make a great job!
