DOUGLAS SBD 2 DAUNTLESS 1/32 Trumpeter

Post  ajcmac on Tue Jan 04, 2011 12:54 am

Will be completed 70 years of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I decided to make a model that represents a aircraft of that time.

A brief piece of history at Pearl Harbor.

In the autumn of 1941 on December 7, the USS Lexington when he was on his way to Midway to land planes in order to strengthen the island's airspace, Japan attacked the American base at Pearl Harbor. Immediately, the aircraft carrier planes launched air patrols in an attempt to locate the attacking Japanese fleet, but without success, the direction that followed was not the best.

The model is the SBD Dauntless Trumpeter in 1/32 scale belonging to the USS Lexington.

I just use the belts from Eduard and a sheet of decals Yellow Wings.

    The model

I started by taking some parts of the trees needed to be cleaned of excess plastic.

Injection marks are few unlike most models of Trumpeter that I know. Two parts, support the pilot's seat and part that holds the engine, which are visible from both sides, I had to cover. But are the ones I found.
Other work was drilling dashboard (dials) and a part of the gunner's seat.

I glued the sets so as to facilitate painting.

The gunner's seat assembly and machine gun..

The assembly that took more work. Perhaps because they are transparent. They should, by the instructions almost in the end, already with the interiors and the fuselage glued and ready. Having to glue, use putty and sanding it scared me a little.

The interiors painted. It was time to see something. It seemed that nothing was done, did not see any progress.

Great effect of overhead lighting on the interior ...

I like the weathered cockpit, do you intend to add chipping aswell?
