Here is my ongoing project on the bench...USS WASP LHD 1 started end of May 2011

USS WASP LHD 1 05061811

USS Wasp (LHD 1) is a U.S. Navy multipurpose amphibious assault ship, the tenth to bear the name, the flagship of the Second Fleet and the lead ship of her class. She was built by the Ingalls Shipbuilding division of Litton in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The Navy-Marine Corps team's newest amphibious warship has as its primary mission the support of a Marine Landing Force. USS Wasp and her sister ships are the first specifically designed to accommodate new Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) for fast troop movement over the beach and Harrier II (AV-8B) Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing (V/STOL) jets which provide close air support for the assault force. Wasp, which is 257 m long (843 ft) with a beam of 32 meters (105 ft), also accommodates the full range of Navy and Marine Corps helicopters, conventional landing craft, and amphibious vehicles.
This time I have started the other way round havent touched the ship yet but working on the working whose choppers and harriers need a lot of attention.

cONSTRUCTION MINUS PROPS NEARLLY FINISHED here are some pics ...I am sorry about the quality...a new camerra for my Christmas Box is a must Smile

The kits offerings were not that good but I had to make do with those offered for the ospreys...note the swing wing before taking the aircraft to the hangar

Now here I built 3 different versions...the ch53e...the mh53 e and the Navy sea DRagon...again one can notice the poor quality of the kits offerings

The cobras (only two provided were absolutely hopless so I had to get Resin ones out of which I did two versions...the cobra AIHW and the sea Viper...very similar but will look quite different wen rotors are added

Nice work Lou, and I appreciate the fact that you are working in such a small scale, but I have a couple of suggestions that are better dealt now before it is too late. Apologies as I might sound a bit harsh, no disrespect intended.

1. i suggest that you rework the harriers, I know that they are ready, but they are way off to represent a late 2nd generation harrier, in this case and AV-8B+. The shorter nosed AV-8B could be used depending on the time frame you intend to depict the Wasp, but sill you have to rework the rest of the aircraft.

2. Now, sorting a bit the air wing as you might get a bid in trouble here, you have to choose a timeframe and cannot have all onboard at the same time, namely for the following reasons,
- if you have the intention of adding the AH-1Z with the AH-1W, which is the latest cobra variant, which is similar as you said and it has 4 blade rotor instead of 2, you have to reconsider, as it has yet to be deployed operationaly with a Marine Expeditionary Unit this year. Operational evaluation was concluded late last year, 2010.

- if you decide to deploy the MH-53J, just note that this version flew it last mission in sept 2008. The MH-53J should have a smaller rotor 'housing' and different tail.

Joseph Thank you for the info...much appreciated...issa the harrier av8 B will be no problem /.//all I have to do is sand a bit of the nose ...do not forget the scale Smile

The sea dragon is going to be finished in Navy colours as a Navy chopper and MH53E in airforce colours ...(Visiting) as I did with the assault choppers on the Kuznetsov....just adding them to put more colour and action on deck
The problem is concerning the vipers and cobras...I can still depict it last year when they were doing trials with the viper...xtahseb ? illuminani siehbi Smile

Nearlly finished the airwing cheers

just some weathering to be applied when I get that powder stuff for weathering...u have appreciate the choppers and aircraft are only 1 inch long and as usual my pics are rubbish...there's the Ospreys Navy sea dragon ..sea stallions...sea knights...hueys....cobra AIHw and of course the AV8's converted from the airficx harriers...ramps were opened...doors were opened....couple of sea knights showing their engines ...loads of detail and conversion work as one can see from previous pics ...here they are Smile

X'naqbad nghidlek nan, tal-genn. I would not weather them more. They are just fine and in that minute scale, it is so easy to overdo it and make a mess. They are already weathered and it is just right. Just my opinion.
