Second Chance

In scale modeling world you might face devastating moments, for instance when a manufacturer discontinues that kit that you wanted to have sooo badly and didn't order in time... And if we talk about resin kits the thing is even worse, right?

Well, back in the 70s there was a TV show on Spanish TV called "The second chance", in which Paco Costas, a journalist specializing in motor and road safety issues, advised viewers on the correct practices behind the wheel and raised awareness of the dangers you might face while driving. The format of the program was striking, because as the name implies it granted a second chance to the protagonist of an accident and analyzed what his behavior should have been in order to avoid it.

As the show said: "Sometimes, it would be great to have a second chance?". And yes, on this occasion, our wishes have been fulfilled and MFH gives us this second opportunity to not miss the different versions of the Lancia 037 in 1/24 scale they published a while ago for the non-Japanese market, and that again you can have if you rush, reaaaly rush, because they WILL fly off the shelves again

il Campionissimo

Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari was an Italian motor racing driver and motorcycling rider who just won it all: he was European Drivers Champion, European champion of 350cc. in 1925, winner of the Mille Miglia in 1930 and 1933 and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1933. And almost certainly he would have been also Formula 1 World Champion if he didn't retire from the competition the same year the championship was born.

Among the many machines he drove there is one that we find specially beautiful, the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza, which Italeri has recreated in 1/12 scale for the enjoyment of all of us who love this scale. Those plastic parts, photoetched parts, paint masks, rubber tires, and those tiny screws, cables, box, manual, and the scent coming off all of them... The only thing that we miss is a gap at the shelf!!!

When night comes or weather conditions worsen, rally cars are transformed: they change their look and become more aggressive thanks to the extra headlights attached to their fronts for improving visibility.

On the Lancia Delta S4, these headlights were really peculiar and representative since they were specially designed to adapt to the shapes of its body. An electrical connector and three screws for each group of lenses, and in just a few seconds the Italian machine was ready to eat the night one bite at a time...

Some time ago I had the opportunity to get into a car that looked quite "square", "sober", I dare to say even "boring", but I got a huge surprise... because under that lamb skin lies a true beast endowed with a truly robust mechanic. Unlike modern 4x4, this machine has very few electronic devices, it is all pure mechanics, and this makes the Mercedes 230 G a very sought-after jewel among extreme 4x4 lovers since you can repair almost any breakdown that could happen to you with just a screwdriver and a monkey wrench.

The closed ESCI brand had the chance to recreate the Mercedes 230 G in 1/24 scale a looooooong long time ago, and Italeri lads have managed to rescue the molds and re-edit, for a limited time, the original model... Bravo!!! No doubt you have to put a little love on it if you are an extreme modeler, but you will be able to enjoy a correct kit and spend some good times with it

Panic!!!

No, we're not joking at all: it has been officially discontinued... let the panic spread! Why? What happened? What have I missed? Well, this means that in case you didn't preorder it, you have missed the re-edition of the Porsche 934 by Tamiya in 1/12 scale, nothing less

Back in August, we notified you through our newsletter about the release of the reissue of this coveted kit, a few weeks ago we opened the "preorder" period, and a few days ago Tamiya supplied the exact quantities for serving all those who preordered the product. One, two, three and it's gone, there are no more, no more units have been casted and everything looks like no more units will be produced. It is not yet 100% confirmed, but at the moment that is the information provided by the manufacturer: The Porsche 934 has been a limited re-edition and it is already discontinued.

We hope that, if you wanted to get this model, you have been one of the ultrafast preorders already served, but if not, we are terribly sorry about it... The only thing we can do now is to advise you to fully squeeze all the possibilities our website offers: use the product alerts and the option to preorder for those products you are sure you wish and don't want to miss.

Laurus nobilis

One more time, the mighty Carlos Sainz made our lives happier again proving to be unbeatable, this time at the Dakar 2020. Yes, once again, he has taken the laurels (Laurus nobilis) in which possibly is the toughest rally in the world. No doubts, although it seems otherwise, it has not been an easy task. There are a few factors to fight against: the characteristics of the challenge, the fierce competition and the age of the driver (57 years old), which although it does not seem to influence at all, it even adds more merit to such feat.

How does he do it? Dexterity, experience, lots of training and tons of cold blood. For instance, for the past few months it has been 6 hours a day in a sauna to acclimatize his body to high temperatures. What nobody knows is that every time he entered the sauna with some sandpaper in one hand and a scale model in the other...

At the end of the race and after getting the victory, he declared to the media: "I'm just looking forward to get home to see what news SpotModel has this week"... XD

Nuremberg 2020

Scale-modeling-wise, the New Year doesn't start on January 1st but later this month. And why? Very easy: because it is at the end of January when the Toy Fair is held in Nuremberg, where every manufacturer worth their salt shows the "candy" they will use to tempt us during the rest of the year

The fair opened doors a few hours ago and we have already been able to meet and delight ourselves with a few "sweets". The first of them, the Porsche 934 in 1/12 scale, a re-edition of the Tamiya classic, but this time including photo-etched parts and the Vaillant livery belonging to the 1976 German GT Championship.

Tamiya's second jewel has surprised everyone, frankly no one expected it: nothing less than the Ford Mustang GT4 in 1/24 scale. Wow!!!!

Italeri, for their part, announced the Lancia Delta HF 16v in 1/12 scale as their shinny new release, as well as several re-editions of veteran Esci (Mercedes 450 SLC, Jeep Renegade, Jeep CJ7, ...) and Protar (BMW 1000 and Yamaha Tenere, both in Dakar versions) kits.

Nuremberg 2020 - Part 2

The Toy Fair at Nuremberg continues its course and we publish an extra newsletter to keep you up to date with all the news that this great event brings us.

In addition to what we already told you in the previous bulletin, Tamiya premiered the Toyota GR Supra in 1/24 scale, the new "carbon" edition of the Kawasaki Ninja H2 in 1/12 scale and, on top of that, a great invention: the masking tape specially designed for 1/24 and 1/20 scale model cars, which includes a thin opaque plastic to make your paint job even easier.

Revell presents this year several re-editions of classic models, among which we highlight the Mercedes 300 SLR in 1/12 scale, the Jaguar E-Type Coupe, the beautiful Chevrolet Corvette that performed as Pace Car in the American Indy by the end of 70s, and the BMW i8 with new parts. And another fantastic surprise: the Volkswagen Transporter T2 Bus in 1/24 scale!!!

Ebbro doesn't tell anything new, but they have shown the Matra MS11 in 1/12 scale as a work in progress, although they have not given many clues about the product. Belkits let us see the first injection test of the Metro 6r4 , which looks reaaaaaaaally interesting.

In 1992, the Formula 1 World Championship seemed to have a clear favorite team, the safest bet. A white and fluorescent orange machine, equipped with a Honda engine, the latest in electronic technology, and Senna and Berger at the wheel. Did anyone doubt about McLaren's supremacy after sweeping their rivals with their car in the previous year?

Race by race there came the technical problems, and the season ended with McLaren signing a second place in the World Championship after several years of glorious victories. Even so, the MP4/7 is a magnificent machine that every modeler should build at least once in a lifetime.

Humbrol

The oldest ones in town, those of us who started assembling scale models long before wheel and fire were invented, used some paintings that were forgotten with the past of the centuries. Those smelly and thick paints by "Molak", those square jars from "Pactra" and, of course, those tiny little Humbrol's paint cans that NEVER ran out... XD

Well, for all those of us who began at that time when there were no photo-etched parts, no acrylic paintings, and no one used an airbrush, we have managed to bring back Humbrol's paints. YAAAAYYYYYYYY!!! The containers are the same as always but with a new look, and of course they include freshly manufactured paint so you can use the most traditional painting techniques.

We have already activated a good part of their color ranges and will add more and more tones in the next few days. However, if you miss anyone, just send us an email to info@spotmodel.com and we will look for the colors you need.

Tameo Kits continues expanding their product ranges. On top of their recent announcement that they got the copyrights to reissue This Way Up products, now we are introduced to the just appeared Montegrosso brand.

Thanks to Montegrosso we will be able to enjoy easy and quick assembly kits in 1/43 scale, without excessive sophistication or high technical complexity, focusing specially in scale modelers with less experience. Virtual Jabbeke

This year, like all previous ones since we knew about the event, we were eager to attend to our favorite model event of the year, Jabbeke: good modelers, good models, good friends, good times, good beers... what else can you ask for? XD

But this appointment, like many others, had to be canceled due to COVID19. We are devastated and already started counting again the days for next year's edition :'-(

Our great friend Holger Boborowski had a(nother) genius idea: why don't we all post via Facebook what we were going to show at Jabbeke? After all the efforts and building hours, let's at least share our accomplishments.

Still here! :-)

In these strange times, we are pleased to announce that the SpotModel team is in perfect health and continue providing service with almost total normality. Of course, we have followed every recommendation from the health authorities and increased hygiene and prevention measures at the workplace, in addition to some occasional protection measures to prevent box avalanches at the warehouse (half of the planet have thought that building a scale model during confinement is a great idea!).

Courier services are suffering understandable restrictions, therefore both our shipments and the products supplies we receive are expanding over time... let's all summon our scale modeler's patience superpowers

The only service we can't currently offer is cash on delivery, since couriers and Postal services do not allow it at the moment in order to foster zero-contact deliveries.

Until this situation ends (and it WILL end), do your best for everyone and stay home. We modelers have a great advantage over others thanks to our hobby, take advantage of it and enjoy #istayhomebuildingmodels

Come hell or high water

As we wrote last week we are still here, open for you, operating at the same rate and as normally as possible, and putting all our efforts into not letting the exceptional nature of these days reflect in our work, although it is inevitable that the external circumstances affect us all in some way.

Delivery time on some shipment may extended a bit, some manufacturers have temporarily shut down operations, there are some places where couriers are temporarily not delivering... But we don't give up, we know you need us, and we won't let you down

Our warehouse goes on shipping your orders as always, and we work day and night to make sure they reach their destination as soon as possible. In the meantime, let's enjoy gluing, sanding, painting and clearcoating our models while we stay patiently at home with our families

Dazzle

The Dazzle or disruptive camouflage is a type of camouflage that began to be used on military ships during the First World War, featuring complex geometric shaped patterns in contrasting colors which interrupt and intersect each other. Curious, right?

Unlike other forms of camouflage, the intent of visual distortion is not to hide, but to make it difficult to estimate a target's range, speed, and heading to deceive the enemy and make them assume a poor firing position. This type of camouflage is also currently used by car brands on during the road tests of their prototypes before launching them to the market, thus avoiding any early exposure of their design lines. Some Formula 1 cars also featured such striking type of camouflage, and the truth is that the result is really spectacular

Since a few days, what we must do, for both our own safety and for the others, is staying at home. That stops us, for some time, from doing some things we love, like going out for a walk, hanging out with our friends, going for a bike ride, going to the cinema or the theater... Who do you think you are? Stirling Moss?

In 1951, a young English boy made his debut at the Formula 1 World Championship at the Swiss Grand Prix, where he finished eighth. From then, he raced, and raced, and raced until 1962, when he suffered a very serious accident on the Goodwood circuit. During those years, he won 212 of the 529 races he took part in all kinds of cars and competitions, from Le Mans to F1, F2 or the Mille Miglia... Absolutely genius. He was the driver with the most victories but without ever winning a Formula 1 World Championship, making him one of the champions without a crown. Quite a symbol ("Mr Motor Racing"), not only for his victories, but for his way of racing and the sportsmanship he showed.

Always with a smile on his face, in a calm voice, ready to sign autographs and chat with fans, this motor ace died a few days ago at the age of 90 years. An anecdote that Moss told is that, on more than one occasion when the police made him pull over for going "a little bit too fast", they shouted at him with anger before handing over the documentation or recognizing him: "Who do you think you are? Stirling Moss?" XD

Tamiya recently reissued a few units of the Porsche 934 Turbo RSR, and soon it will be the turn for the Matra MS11. Meanwhile we can start building the Datsun 240Z that won the Safari Rally using the decals designed by Decalcas for replacing the aged, broken and seasoned decals lying in the box of our model. Ooohhhh!!

They promised us that there will be more reprints of classic model decals, and they also told us that they are working on some additional improvements for them, designed to enhance some parts and correct some deficiencies that the models have. Great!!!
