Contacta clear

Today we are not going to talk about cars, motorcycles or drivers, today we are going to introduce you a new product just arrived that we LOVED, so we felt like it deserved to be highlighted. It is called Contacta Clear by Revell and it is an acrylic glue that dries completely transparent. It surprises at first sight due to its density, it is served in a bottle with 20 grams of product (about 17ml) and it also includes an application brush on the lid.

It is designed to glue plastic parts, especially the transparent parts, since once dry it's really difficult to point where the glue is. Magic? It certainly is, and of the good kind. As if that were not enough, the product is also really cheap and we can send it everywhere on this planet.

At SpotModel we are currently studying the possibility of shipping to Mars... but it seems that there are still few modelers in the area XD (although there are already a few scale models up there! ;-)

Shizuoka 2021

The largest event for worldwide scale modeling manufacturers has been held in Shizuoka for no less than 59 years. This year has been a little strange due to the circumstances that are limiting us all, but that has not detracted anything from the event. So let's cut the introduction and let's go directly to what interests us... cars and motorcycles scale models!!!

Aoshima has announced the LB Works Lamborghini Huracan v.1 for which we are sure we will see interesting liveries (Mad Mike's, pretty please!!!). Hasegawa has presented ... ermmmmmm.... ummmmm.... nothing, let's move to the next booth. Ebbro showed the Lotus Ford 005 and the remix of the Lotus 33 Coventry Climax based on the Tamiya Lotus 25. And now it's Nunu's turn, with the Volvo S40 and Lotus 99t prototypes (in 1/12 scale!!!). We run to the Tamiya booth that presents the re-edition of the Sauber Mercedes C9 to which they added some photo-etched parts, as well as the re-edition of the BT44B in 1/12 scale, the re-edition of the Nissan Fairlady 240ZG, and the premiere of the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP Black. And I think we can go to the bar now... XD

The whole staff at SpotModel would have loved to attend, but we have been really busy building models... so it will have to be next year ;D

Fujimi has arrived

A few minutes ago we heard a powerful sound: the engine of the huge truck that brought us our long-awaited shipment of Fujimi scale models, supposedly arriving a few weeks ago. Between the virus, the delay due to maritime transport issues and many others problems, the dates have been pushed back way more than we liked but finally the supply has arrived. Hooray!!!

At the moment we have our whole SpotModel troop of minions downloading models like crazy and between today and tomorrow we will finish sorting all the material and adding everything to our stock: Ferrari 250 GTO, BMW M5, several versions of 917s and 911s, GT40... How glad we are to see them all back again while we walk through the alleys! XD

By the end of the 20s of the last century, Bentley engineers created a 4500cc engine and planted it in all the 720 units of their newest car model. And as if that weren't enough, 55 of those units get also a turbocharger. And as if it wasn't a big deal, one of these is taken to race at Le Mans. And what happened? Well, not much, only that it won the race...

Many years pass until Airfix converts in 1971 the Bentley 4.5L Blower Supercharged that won Le Mans in 1928 into an interesting 1/12 scale model, which has been reissued on several occasions and which we are now lucky to have on the shelves again.

The kit includes decals printed by Cartograf and is full of nice details despite the age of the molds. A straight-from-the-box assembly that with very few self-made parts undoubtedly translates into a really interesting and essential build in your showcase.

Will any manufacturer release new parts for both the 1/12 scale reedition and/or the 1/24 version? At the moment we only know that Number Five has already gone ahead by offering us the color tone to paint the Bentley 4.5L Blower Supercharged.

And if we put a turbo to the SpotModel website... could we win at Le Mans?

We already told you in newsletter number 463 that Nunu was working on the version of the Lotus Honda 99T in 1/12 scale, and today we can say that the kit is expected to see the light at the end of the year and will recreate the configuration used at the Mónaco Grand Prix, where Senna achieved his first of many victories in Formula 1 in this track. But the best of all is that... you can already preorder it NOW at SpotModel!!!

Nunu has not provided any more details, besides the prototype that was shown in Shizuoka, but surely there will be an additional set with the photoetched parts, antennas, harnesses, etc... And everything indicates that it is very likely that the tobacco logos are not included on the model.

Let's be patient and build some other models while Nunu finishes preparing the product, such as the new kit from Tameo's Montegrosso range of the Ferrari 500 in 1/43 scale, or some of your veteran models with the freshly printed decals reissued by Shunko like the Skyline GT- R. We can also stockpile on the decals for the BMW M8 that SK Decals has released for the Nunu's model that will arrive at SpotModel in the coming weeks.

Mark II

The word "mark", followed by a number, is a method of designating a version of a product, for which its abbreviation is very frequently used: "Mk". So, if we talk about the Ford GT40 Mk II, that means that we are looking at the second version of one of the most beautiful, fast, intrepid and winning racing machines that has come out of the Ford factory.

We recently mentioned that Revell releases the 1968 Ford GT in 1/24 scale with the Gulf livery corresponding to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while Fujimi will send us a truckload of his model by the end of the summer.

Well, out of the blue and without prior notice, Komakai has published an 86-page book in the Ultra Detail Guides series coverting the machine in question. Maaaaaaaaaaany many really interesting pictures so that you can take your models one step or further and make them Mark II models. Or even Mark III. XD

Gaaaaaaas!!!

This weekend we smelled that good gasoline again, the kind used by racing cars. That poison that smells so divinely, specially when it's served together with the smell of a burned tire and a brake disc on fire. A hill climb in a nearby road in our area (no, it was not Pikes Peak) allowed us to jump with excitement when we saw the cars go by in front of us. What do you think of this gorgeous Porsche? Amazing!!!

Just one day

The day counter that we have at SpotModel says that we have been shipping your orders non-stop for more than 2000 days in a row. That's insane!!! We will never ever get tired of saying that we love our jobs. We have managed to earn a living with our favorite hobby that also keeps us magically attached to a world that we are passionate about: motor racing.

And for even greater pleasure (if that's even possible), you don't stop sending us messages congratulating us for our work, for our dedication, for our good practices... Thank you all for those messages, they make us happy every day

It is possible that the most veterans remember what modeling was like before the internet dominated our lives, let's say back in the 80's. To order a scale model from a specialized store, you had to first write a letter asking them to send you a list of What they had in stock, weeks later you received the postal reply with the photocopied list and then, happier than a clam, you placed your order, again by letter.

After a long time you received a new letter, this time with the confirmation of your reserved products and so you had to go in person to the bank to stand in the queue and make a bank transfer for the products purchased. The receipt of the payment was sent one more time by letter to the store, and again a few weeks later, you received your order.

In those years words like "photo-etch", "transkit", "Alclad", "Studio27", "lacquer", ... just didn't exist. You simply ordered a scale model and half a dozen of Pactra, Humbrol, Molak or Tamiya colors... and with a little bit of luck you even got it delivered!

Remembering all this, we only intend to praise the advantages of the internet and globalization for these cases, which give us the possibility of accessing an extensive product catalog with a simple click, with great price competition and the logistic agility of these times. GREAT!!! Nobody remembers the endless weeks (or months) of waiting to receive any news about your models, or a shipment without a tracking number, or the non-existent variety of products, nor really unpopular prices in most cases.

Finally!

At the 1984 Tour de Corse, Audi presents a new evolution of the Audi Quattro A2, with more than 450 hp, lighter and with an even shorter wheelbase. He only achieved one victory, in the 1984 Ivory Coast Rally. It will be used in 1985 until the Ivory Coast Rally but it did not achieve any victories, although he conquered several podiums. But most importantly, this car laid the foundation for the absolutely brutal Audi Sport Quattro S1.

Nunu has made us happy once again by putting on the market the model of the Audi Sport Quattro in 1/24 scale with the decoration used in the 1986 Toyota Olympus Rally car and that finally, after a thousand and one international logistics problems, has reached the SpotModel warehouse.

Two laps

We have all watched with astonished eyes this weekend how a new record was set in the Formula 1 World Championship: the shortest Grand Prix in history, with just two exciting laps... behind the Safety Car. 8-O

The rain played a trick on the Belgian Grand Prix, where going out onto the Spa-Francorchamps tarmac was really dangerous, so for safety reasons the race ended with only two laps of the cars behind the Safety Car, to the great disappointment of all the attendees and the fans of this sport. But "outdoor sports" are sometimes like that and these things can happen

The SpotModel team was glued to the screen watching the "race", and after what happened we can only send a huge applause to all the fans who went to the racetrack and held on stoically in the rain. All of them are the true heroes of this weekend's event.

The joy of the week, the news that nobody expected, what made us all happy as a clam is without a doubt the announcement of the 2020 Championship Suzuki GSX-RR with which Tamiya just surprised everybody.

The model looks sensational, in line with the latest creations of the brand, with an extensive parts list of the engine and the detail levels we are used to. And as is already a delicious custom, a set is also offered for updating the radiator and front fork with metal parts, decals and photo-etched parts.

Arrival dates to Europe are still estimated for the end of the year (if customs, ships, viruses and all the rest allow), so this Christmas promises to be reaaally joyful

2 x McLaren

Indeed, our friends!!! McLaren has finally won an F1 award back again after a very long time without reaching the top of the podium. They did it at the Monza Italian Grand Prix and also in the form of a double win: first place for Daniel Ricciardo and second place for Lando Norris. A great victory, both deserved and longed for a long time by his followers.

Hopefully this triumph encourages our beloved manufacturers to release the McLaren MCL35M scale model, and the carbon decals, and the paints, and a detailed book, and... C'mon Tamiya, Fujimi, Model Factory Hiro, start now with the design of the scale model, please!!! Hope is the last thing you lose, so we will go on waiting and looking forward to hearing some news soon...

The M8 GTE has just arrived!!!

Ali baba and the forty thieves wanted to steal the ship container, Little Red Riding Hood's wolf ate some model boxes, Cinderella's fairy wanted to turn one of the models into a real-size car to go to the dance... but still we made it and finally have here the BMW M8 GTE by Nunu. So many incidents that it felt like pure fantasy, but that were the harsh reality: the pandemic, the maritime logistics chaos, a truck that traveled 1000 kilometers somewhere at the speed of a turtle, and some courier that wrecked a good pile of units. Anyway, everything is now part of a story that had a happy ending :-)

The important thing now is to put this gorgeous model that you already bought on top of your workbench as soon as possible, so here we are right now picking and packing parcels at full speed. In the meantime, remember that the model looks WAY better if you throw in the Nunu's photo-etched parts of their detail set, if you study the Komakai photo reference book, if you use the carbon fiber pattern decals by Studio27, if you paint it with the Number Five exact tone for this model or if you dare to go "off the trail" with any of the optional decorations that are already available at SpotModel.

Highlight Model Studio

This Finnish manufacturer of photo-etched parts, which focuses mainly on designing and producing references for VW Beetle lovers, has launched three new references. In case someone does not know it yet, Highlight Model Studio offers a catalog of high quality parts to improve your 1/24 scale model cars and all of them are incredibly cool!!!

The first novelty is a set of ratchets to tie your models to a trailer (for instance), and includes photoetched parts and tape to simulate the fabric. The second is a set of pedals that includes 4 different configurations, made in 0.2 mm thick photo-etch. Heavenly music

Like an orchestra, with its highs, mids and lows, generating sound at full volume, the engine of the Williams Renault FW14B sang beautiful melodies in the 1992 F1 season with Mansell and Patrese winning every race: South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, San Marino, France, Germany...

That same year Tamiya fired on all cylinders and hit a high C recreating in 1/12 scale the beautiful machine created by Adrian Newey, a model that every scale car modeller undoubtedly has assembled or pending to assemble.

A couple of years ago, Komakai made us happy with the picture book of the recently restored FW14B, with all the necessary details to make a well-documented assembly.

C3 WRC!!!

It was announced many months ago, we opened the preorder period in April and it had the estimated arrival date by October, so we can finally say that... they are already here!!! Yeeessss!!! The two models of the Citroën C3 WRC by Belkits have arrived and are ready to jump onto your workbench.

In the box you will find the usual Belkits parts list, but this time you can tell there are a few improvements: the manuals are really improved, the interior of the vehicle comes fully exploded and with a wealth of details, and the bodywork looks very well worked. It includes paint masks for the window frames as well as various photo-etched parts sheets for the hood latches, brake discs and harnesses. But what mostly caught our attention were the preformed metal parts for the small front spoiler wings, they are spectacular!! A model that is absolutely essential on your shelf and that for sure will look amazing if you paint it with the specific colors by Number Five or decorate it with Renaissance decals from the Rally Monte-Carlo 2018.

On top of that, the 1978 Suzuki RG500 XR27 edited by Italeri have also just entered the door. It is still so hot from the oven that we have not even been able to put or hands on it for taking some pictures

Well done, boss!!!

As we announced in our previous newsletter, the Fuengirola Scale Modeling Contest took place last weekend, and there we went like every other year to meet up with old friends and make new friends, talk about models and have a good time having some beers...

The showcases were packed to overflowing, with almost 1000 builds in the competition. And what can we say? We came back home very happy, because in addition to enjoying a model event again (which we were already looking forward to), the BMW R75 and the Maserati 250F presented by the boss to the competition were awarded by the very demanding and experienced jury. Two different builds assembled with all the love and tenderness, just like we prepare your orders at SpotModel, as it couldn't be otherwise.

The boss got so excited that he's already preparing his next build, to be presented at Jabekke. It is not yet confirmed that it will be held in 2022 but we are all waiting impatiently for the good news. Everything suggests that he will include some of the novelties of this week such as the Decalcas fittings in 0.8mm size, the reedited decals by Tabu, some of the Porsche 911 by Arena... we'll see

It seems that, as he says, SpotModel's thinking head still knows how to build scale models
