Having gone through Brian's fantastic book MALTA SPITFIRE Vs-1942 from cover to cover, I have been impressed by vast reserch that this book contains. Following Brian's guidelines I have started work on a 229 Squadron Spitfire Vb, which will be heavily weathered and overpainted just like the photo below.

    Malta Spitfire in 1/32 scale. Img_0010o c

I am using an old Hasagawa kit, which I had to rescribe as it had raised panel lines.
I am scratch building new wheel wells as the kit ones are too shallow.

Some photos of the work so far.

I have improved the look of the radiator.

I will be fitting resin exhausts and new guns.

Nice work Cyril, it looks nearly done and you will be painting her soon. Have fun there is so much weathering to be done for the one you chose. You can even use some of the techniques they use for AFV's.

I agree with you about this version but just one small correction, the one Cyril is making got the Vokes filter not the aboukir one which was different than the vokes. The aboukir filter was fitted to spitfires arriving in aboukir bay, Egypt hence the name.

Lovely work Cyril, a beauty in the making. What a loverly plane!! I think that the old Hasegawa kit is still very much ok as long as you don;t mind scribing it. The shape is nice and spot on. Keep it up let's see it done.

    .
    Camouflage and markings finally ready.

Next step is over painting parts of the Mid Stone with a Blue Grey colour, then finally the extensive weathering.

    Some really extensive weathering.

Landing gear still to be weathered.

Don't tell me, ta....... but the Spitfire is the most beautiful plane ever built!!! Now, I'm very, very much pro German and everything German/Nazi is super..... but the Spitfire just beats them all....... I even supported England against Italy because of the Spit!!  bounce

I compleatly agree with you about the Spit, mind you, watch what you say or you will be in trouble with Marco.

    Some more scratch building,

The entry door and the gauze cover for the Vokes filter.

Malta Spitfire in 1/32 scale. Sam_0211

The weathering is comming on well, but has still a long way to go.

Another hard nut to crack is the excessive fuel spillage,
but I will get there in the end.

Beautiful detail work Cyril, well done. As for the fuel spillage, i had a very similar stain on my corsair and you can copy that or at least get an idea of how i made it. It looked very convincing. Here is the link to my corsair build.
