Working on this for the Malta Group Build over on Britmodeller - though worth posting here too Smile

1:32 Macchi C.202 - MM7848 flown by Sergente Maggiore Faliero Gelli of the 378 Squadrilia, 155 Gruppo, 51st Stormo.

This aeroplane was shot down over Gozo by George "Buzz" Beurling while escorting nine German Ju-88s in mission over Malta. July 27th 1942...

Sergente Maggiore Gelli had previously claimed three Spitfires shot down over Malta and managed to crash land on the island of Gozo. He apparently suffered only minor injures and became a Prisoner of War..

    Couple of great references:

The kit - been loft insulation too long:

Short run injection, resin and etch - nice package:

Possible source of spares - and certainly some decals:

Some images of the crash site:

I've seen illustrations showing cowl panels in lighter camouflage - but not convinced. Does anyone have any info on this aeroplane?

Interesting subject! In my opinion the cowling is the same as the rest of the aircraft.
During the same encounter of 27th July, Sgt Mag Gelli was flying wingman to italian ace Captain Furio Niclot Doglio. Sgt Mag Gelli was shot first and Captain Doglio seconds later. The loss of Capt Furio Niclot Doglio was a sad blow to the italians because apart from being an ace (6 spitfires + 1 hurricane), he had set 9 world records during the 1930s. I am not sure but I think that Sgt Gelli is the only one to have survived after being shot down by Beurling. On the same day just after shooting down the macchis, Beurling shot down a 109, landed-refueled and took off engaging more 109s, shooting one down and damaging another.
