And the glass is not broken... I would assume that even in a belly landing, the impact would shatter some of the glass

Have seen that model up close and personal and to me it is the best dio done by the Spanish Aitor so far ... first impression everyone gets the feeling why the perspex is still intact with the impact, I thought the same feeling, but not seen in the images the modeller was inspired by a real foto of a similar incident, and strangely eough it is intact ... how certain things happen I guess it's the mystery of physics, the only neglect that the modeller has done which no one notices is there are no water splashed on the aircraft and perspex and the groundwork is meticlously intact, infect that was what he was critisized about ... hats of for a great composition, story telling, water control and above all mastership of modelling.

if the belly landing was well exucuted, then the pilot would have kept the nose of the aircraft up and raised as much as possible and so that might have prevented the canopy glass from shattering. also the wings seem to have borne the brunt of the damage and they also helped in keeping the cockpit area realtively damage free. Also, the water seems to have been shallow and not much splashing would have occurred. i still think it is fantastic.

Excellent work no doubt, but more than splashes and intact perspex, I feel that the sit of aircraft as it crash landed seems a bit strange! Given the terrian and rocky riverbed I think there should be more damage due to the crash landing especially the engine nacelles and starboard wing, but again this is my humble opinion. Still it is an excellent piece of work, both in modelling techiniques and storytelling!

Since both props are bend, it suggests that both were turing at the moment of impact. Still it does not rule out engine failure (unless the engine seized and prop shaft would have got stuck) since props might still turn because of the air stream causing more drag unless they are feathered. About the battle damage, I agree with you since there does'not seem to be 20mm, .303 or flak damage in the above pictures. Engine failure, loss of power or fuel starvation (ran out of gas) are the most viable options in my opinion and many other things can lead to crash landing apart from battle damage alone.

p.s - we need need an air crash investigation!!

This Dio managed to gather all eyes on it. He combined water, ground, figures and a Huge plane perfectly. His painting work is eyecatching. However, I do aggre that "something" goes wrong. It looks σο perfectly landed...
The real picture that inspired him shows a plane crashed on Ice(?).
His script locates the crashed plane towards a shallow river with lots of stones... I would expect more damage on wings and canopy.

Anyway... everybody agrees that this aviation diorama is one of the most awesome to date.

    Well done!
