varnish Klear....odd reaction? Empty varnish Klear....odd reaction?

Post  mental dental Sat Dec 06, 2014 12:22 pm

I've noticed that Klear covers well on Scale 75 acrylic and Mr Hobby Colors. On Vallejo it is very patchy even after 4 coats. I'm going to use a 'better' varnish to seal at the end of the project ie. alclad or Mr Hobby.

    Any one else noticed this??

    Aircraft........never varnished a figure.honest!

On some Vallejo it has dried very patchy gloss and flat interspersed and looks messy in spite of repeat coverings. On the same plane at the same time I covered Mr Hobby aqueous and Scale 75 paint with no problems.

Also found spraying Klear onto freshly dried oil paint a joke........the surface tension made it bead up and run off the plane. I rescued it by washing under the tap and spraying with Alclad instead

Ok, that's why I asked you because like you, I have never varnished a figure Evil or Very Mad

The aircraft boys however, do not use Vallejo or Scale75 colours. They use Tamiya & or Mr.Hobby AFAIK but would like some of them to chime in as they would surely give you a more detailed picture Twisted Evil

Last one..are you spraying the varnish or applying it with a brush? I'm asking because the tendencies of patches as you mentioned are more synonymous with a brush application rather than a spray application Suspect

Hi Ray, using an airbrush. Had another go at ti toay. Can only think there's something oily on there.........finger grease or some other contamination.
