Leading edges....
Have studied huge numbers of pics and vids...its the leading edge which gets the brunt on the sides......cos trees are mostly torn off after the leading edge hits i guess....and really cant see too many scratches mid way on the hull side...I think it just wouldnt look right....
To answer Brian...once I scratch...you cant go back....so a bit less is better than a bit too much i reason...
Anyway i have filtered the model so now not too many heavy scratches can be added....
Some minor highlighted ones....

Agreed if you feel it is enough then it is enough.......BUT.........having said that, I would still "study" pics of finished similar models by "Top Brass" in your section and look out for any "artistic licence/trend" that they might have!!
Just my 2cents worth that's all

Re: Sherman Whitewash....
Dottore, were you there or have you ever drove a sherman?
Probably you are right as the fotos you have seen are brand new sherman and when from the jerries they took fotos of the same unit by that time it would be all rust and brewed up!
Joking apart studying real fotos is good, but believe me the lens does not capture everything, especially if it was taken let say 50 yards from the spot. Might you have a close look at a Caterpillar or a heavy industrial truck in some construction site [I think we have plenty in Malta] and see what we are inploring, and these are not in battle condition ... my 2 cents on this Dr Conservative ... and above all there is something in modelling called artistic license and when used with taste it makes your Ronson look better ...

Re: Sherman Whitewash....
Since I am building exclusively aircraft that are kept in a much better condition than tanks, my opinion is very humble. I think that you upfront between the front sprokets is too clean if I have studied your picture well. Shouldn't this are be the worst affected going to hedges, shrubs, logs, etc......Just an opinion

Thanks for suggestions!

Re: Sherman Whitewash....
No cheating As an excellent modeller you are, you should scratch, and then cover up with mud
Just joking, but did not think about the mud.

Re: Sherman Whitewash....
Very interesting to see, and yours is turning out subperb! I've never done
the hairspray method, but i can see why people do with great results like this.
I usually just paint that stuff on with oils, but i think i need to try this.
Good Job Dottore!

Superb finish as usual Dott.
I agree with the ones above me, a few more scratches would do no harm.
Still excellent work.
Keep us posted.
