Here are some pics from phase 101 in this project

This time its the life boats 10 of them in 7 different models all in 1/48 scale and scratch built

On each turret one 42ft steam inc boiler and reciporocating engine
One 45ft clinker life boat with 20 oars and on top of it a 20 footer

The steam launch has a fibreglass hull but I have changed the
method to plastic vac form as shown in the other two.All other detail in brass and perspex

As for the turret the armour plates are milliput pressed with a shaped press and the bottle screws all round were cast from a machined master

Awesome detail David, the turret is also taking great shape, that vacform machine looks interesting, are you using a vacuum cleaner?

Yes it's a household vacuum connected to a wooden box with perforated top . Preferably you have various box sizes to economize on plastic

Xi gmiel Dave, that has got to be the mother of all models, it is simply brilliant. too bad the updates are so far between but i can undersand that the work you are doing takes a long time. it is simply awesome. The work you are doing in brass is really nice, a pity that those parts have to eventually be painted.

OMG ... each boat is a model by itself, impressive Dave?

I am noticing a crew, are you populating the ship or just for dimension ... isma ask Wirt Artna a favour to unveal this masterpiece again during HIS2010!

Still more work on the Duilio Empty An overdue Duilio 1/48 update

Post  David Sat May 24, 2014 2:43 pm

Here are updates from recent work on the Duilio

At this scale it could take to infinity and beyond. So a compromise has to be reached between between what should be the limit and having the ship displayed at the Fort.

    Well here are the photos
