Tamiya BT-7...chipping done! Empty Tamiya BT-7...chipping done!

Post  Dottore Sun Aug 05, 2012 9:31 am

While building the first BT-7 I decided to build another one...this time in Russian 4BO (and not whitewashed)since the kit goes together quite fast without the need of excessive detailing...(though I did add a couple of cables and small details). It also gives me a chance to experiment further with overhead lighting/modulation technique. I tried to push the highlights as far as possible...we see how this will turn out (decently hopefully!). This model was primed in Tamiya white primer and the base colour is already paler compared to the whitewashed BT. My mixture for 4BO is nothing too fancy...equal parts of Tamiya Olive Gren and Tamiya Yellow Green...with some Clear to give it a satin sheen...

    All comments welcome!

PS As always beware the lousy pics!

Like the modulation effect but there is a minor correction, everything has a top lighting effect which is very good, but why the fuel cannisters have the light coming from behind ... that does not look good in my eyes ...

    Tamiya BT-7...chipping done! Empty Developments..

Post  Dottore Fri Apr 12, 2013 8:11 pm

Since last posting I have taken another look at the model and decided to strip off the paint to plastic and go for another style of painting...

The kit is basically the Tamiya BT-7 OOTB save for a spring at the front hatch, some tie downs and the tool fittings.
I also added the turret aerial antenna...Here it is primed with Tamiya fine surface primer.

Tamiya BT-7...chipping done! Empty not really...

Post  Dottore Fri Apr 12, 2013 11:12 pm

Just wanted it a bit different from the one I did recently. Also I was previously being lazy as it is very labour intensive to clean up that aerial antenna!!!

It will be simple 4BO but ill try out the Lifecolour paints...

You lazy that sounds strange ... to make things different there was a period that soviets used tactical signs on the roof. Triangles, circles and crosses in white were prominent ... they were re used again in Berlin ... avoiding friendly fires from trigger happy plane guys ...

    Tamiya BT-7...chipping done! Empty Painting....

Post  Dottore Tue May 06, 2014 12:39 pm

I found some time to airbrush the base coat and some highlights...
The turret aerial is off....as I prefer the tank without it....
Base coat is Tamiya JA Green...lightened successively for the highlights...
