New in Modelling

Hi,

I am new to modelling and for the first model, I made use of paint brushes instead of an air brush.  Now I am interested in buying an air brush but I am not willing to spend a lot of money.

I would like to know apart from buying the air brush itself, what is needed please? Instead of buying an air compressor, can I make use of canned air.

I already bought the basic tools needed for the construction of model kits. These are a set of tweezers, hobby knife, hand held magnifier, a set of needle files and a side cutter.

First and foremost you need to come to the club and talk to us to get an idea of how to go about it. Regarding canned air, i personally do not recommend it. If you buy it you are literally blowing your money away on air. It is not worth it and a can of air is not even enough to clean the air brush after a painting sesson. If you don;t mind the noise, go for the smallest air compressor (20-25 litre) THat is the cheapest option but the noisiest. What i personally did to remedy the problem is to use an old Refrigerator compressor instead of the mechanical one using the same setup. This is the cheapest option. However, using canned air is definitely not worth it. In my old days i used to inflate a tyre and use that as the source of air but the pressure varies so much it drives you insane. Better to spend some more and start off well prepared.

I already attended the club for the two times and tend to become a member in the near future.

Fortunately, my father owns a 100 litre air compressor so I can make use of it for now. Now the next step is to buy an airbrush kit.

Hi again Kurt, no i don;t agree with you buying that airbrush. IN MY OPINION, there is no such thing as an airbrush for a beginner. an airbrush is an airbrush and it needs to be able to satisfy your requirements. That is a single action airbrush. You need a dual action which will allow you to adjust the thickness of the line you are spraying at the same time as the quantity of paint coming out. You need a dual action airbrush, best get one and get used to it straight away. I still use the first airbrush i bought, over thirty years ago so it is not a waste of money. Just my opinion.

I will consider your opinion when choosing the right airbrush.
