This is my FIRST, yes first, Tamiya model. At first i thought 34euro was alot for a model.. but after openining the kit i realized why the high price. lovely quality plastic. everything is packed in plastic. lovely detail and the best part is.. the mould is so clean! unlike Revells molds, that require trimming on every single bloody piece! Something quite shocking was the highly polished silver plastic (so bright you might need your shades), which in the end is for nothing because it will be primed black.. only to be sprayed the same finished the plastic has.pity. one down side.. requires tamiya paints (which i do not use) and they made life hard for me by not writing the paint name under the paint number (unlike italeri and revell instructions) Evil or Very Mad another interesting find is the fact that they have provided at ballbearing with the kit! Smile

This is why i was asking about polished metal finishes-

*warning- the kit is not made of real silver*

you dont neccesarrily have to use tamiya paints, you have plenty of options the first thing to do is find the equivalent F.S.(federal standard) colour, marco can help and if he cant i might. then use modelmaster with the same numbers. all you need is some research on what colours the usaf used/uses the rest is simple.

I see Tamiya "chromed" the kit. Draw back to that is as you cut the pieces from the sprue you would see the actual color of the plastic (probably light gray, like the cockpit). So painting is the right thing to do. The ball bearing is to weight the nose down so it sits right. It is very hit or miss on weights in aircraft models, mostly miss. And yes you don't have to use just tamiya paints. I use model masters on almost everything.

nice choice of kit Adrian, what a nice finish the plastic has but i am afraid you will still have to do at least some painting, maybe some panels may be lef tin the that shade but you will definitely have to paint others. But it is nice anyway.

Yes lovely kit indeed! it is my first polished metal model. so it will be tough. i read a WIP build of a guy who did this model... and he left the finish as it is! :O he also said that the kit fits together perfectly! Smile

    Adrian

You might as well pay a visit at the Malta Aviation Museum there are a couple of all metal planes on show which will give you an idea of all the colour effects on metal you can have. I would also recommend you to get a bottle of Tamiya Smole XF18 or 19 it is + some artist oil prussian blue, cobalt blue and cerelium blue with those colour you can mange some nice filters for certain panels ...

    Ejja start bulding now ...

Nice detail painting, just one gripe - the seatbelt decals, do not use them as they look too obvious and secondly they look cartoonish

Hmm i was considering not using them but i thought its a pity because the decal is quite detailed and it is tough to replicate it using tape! Shocked
