Hi all, As many of you may know, I am also a collector of firearms, and am in possession of the famous MG34 and MG42. It is not every day that these two fine machineguns can be viewed. If any of the members, especially those who are in Armoured vehicles and WW2 German Figures, are interested, I can bring along these two beauties to the club and even organise a lecture covering the history of these german machineguns.

RE- MG34 & MG42 LECTURE
Thanks for the positive feedback,
The lecture will be presented next Wednesday the 16th of November,at the Club premises at around 7.15pm. I shall be giving a brief history of the machine guns as used by the German Army from 1900 to 1945 to start with, moving on to the interwar years which lead to the development of the MG34 and finally the Mg42. I will also give a full description of the accessories used by the machinegunner and the armourer in order to maintain and service the guns.
See you all next Wednesday.

Re: MG34 & MG42 LECTURE
Most interesting Paul, by chance do you also have that small pouch with teh asbestos cloth for changing the barrel, would like to see it and what's in it ... I have in hand one of the best reproduced MG42 in resin 1/35 scale, will bring along to compare and see how it needs to be painted properly.

MG34 & MG42 LECTURE
Hi Ivan, Yes, I do have it. it is part of the gunner pouch. I shall bring it with me next wednesday. The asbestos cloth was refered to as the HOT MITT. The gunners pouch, was a very important piece of field gear, as it held the tools required for the maintenance of the machine gun, a ruptured shell extruder, starter tabs and a spare bolt. early models were made from Leather, but the later versions were made from canvas. The one I have is in leather. My next step is the purchase of the lafette mounting. But as I said, one step at a time. The cost of a decent lafette mount ranges from Euro 1,750.00 to Euro 2,500.00. To that you must also add another Euro 2,500.00 for the illuminated scope and another Euro 800.00 for the battery box + interconnecting cables, from the scope to the battery box. Early war period battery boxes were made in leather, but as the was progressed, leather was put aside and were fabricated from sheet steel.
