I think you are getting confused, you do not get that kind of finish from the first coat of varnish. Usually after the first coat/s of varnish the model will be 'taz-zibel' but than very patiently you soft sand then apply another coat/s of varnish and if need be you repeat the process until you get the desired finish. Another thing, can you bring the model with you to club so we will asses what is wrong.
