SSM needs to increase it's PR effort and bring it up to it's modelling quality standard!

weren't we supposedly prepared or preparing a press release? If we collectively, including me done nothing we have to have to do it, ortherwise we risk getting sloppy.

Re: sunday times 1/10/10
I don't see newspapers anymore for quite a while so I can't say if our press release came out on any news paper or not
However it really pains me if the general public gets decieved yet once again by this lousy pic and FALSE news because nowhere it is stated that it was/were THE LEFTOVERS in THE STANDARD CATEGORY, because in the MASTERS CATEGORY, WE RUBBED SHOULDERS WITH THE GREATS that were in attendance there

IMO, we should also display the winning models together with their relative awards won on a dedicated table during the expo. We must all stride to help the public distinguish between clubs and quality. I don't know about you, but almost every time I talk to people about modelling, the only show they mention is almost always the one held at Opel showroon or Gasan Showroom..And it's VERY VERY ANNOYING, and makes me worry too

Re: sunday times 1/10/10
You have every right to grumble and sound your voice about the lack of PR in respect of our success at Catania but NO ONE has the right to call for any 'Replacement Due to Dead Weight for The Glory of SSM'.
These guys have been having better PR than us (suppost) for, I don't know how many years, but, look at their achievments, modelling skills, level of annual exhibition and attendance, this I leave it to you to judge.
You must not forget that less than 3 months ago we had the same coverage or better regarding our success at euromilitare, a coverage that these guys can only have in their dreams.
PR is good very good but it never made any 'Band of Brothers' or was the key to any success of a society, because, if so AME should be the most succesful society in the world, according to our line of thinking
Yes we will draft a suitable press release regarding our visit to Catania.

Re: sunday times 1/10/10
This is good, no mention in which category if Masters or Standard!!!!!
As usual we were late BUT ...
As for the PR, let them enjoy, and if we are to get seriously for PR let us start concentrating for History in Scale, that is our showcase and not a small pic on the Times ...
We have 2 months+ to go and now we have enough stories and achievments to do a series of mini PRs and maybe start going around on the TV ... by the way if we want to show our ugly mugshots on the Times site we have that famous photo on the cannon
I agree regarding a PR about Catania, Steve's acheivments in USA and also our Malta Team for Torrent which shall lead to our expo ... so 1 is not enough!
Relax guys start concentrating on HIS2010!
Ivan

Ivan, whilst I agree with you that we should start concentrating on HIS 2010, so that it will be another success, we have to do something which, firstly stands alone, then relate it to HIS. What I am saying, a press release for catania may be out of the timeframe but it is still January, so this can fit the timeframe, may I suggest a PR encompassing all the awards/achievements done by our SSM brothers over the whole 2009 year, then relate the whole thing to the annual HIS. Just a humble opinion.

Prosit Nan!
If we want to make it more interesting we might invite him to our premises and display all [most] of our awarded models and medals, so they can take a full report and photos.

Re: sunday times 1/10/10
My opinion.
As a club we hold the finest model makers on the Island... no doubt about this. Our standards match and many times outclass great modellers and masters from other countries. All this considering our tiny community as compared with those abroad.
NOW...... I don't know how SSM is organised but I think the club needs some serious PRO. This PRO stuff requires contacts and also time dedication.
I suggest a team of 2 or 3 members who are willing to give their time into this, should be set up. We are doing wonders with our hobby and 80% is going unnoticed! PITY!
PRO Team:
a) responsible to get every HIS in the media, in a powerful manner
b) Responsible to get every participation we do abroad, in the media
c) From time to time we get someone to publish an article about the hobby and our club, with pictures.
If a serious team is not set up and the inclusion of our existence in the media is only controlled on a whim, then we should not complain that other clubs get there before us.
The SSM committee should ask members who are willing to give their time to set up a serious team. If there is no one........ mela don't complain if we see no SSM on the media.
For the record. The above is my opinion and no disrespect to anyone is intended

Very good quote Noel, I think the comittee never was against anyone who would like to team up to do serious PR, so who is willing to create this team just come forward, Everyone is bringing good ideas and I think it is time to start acting.
First and formost for good PR we need to get some good contact/s with all the local media. Without these 'friends' we tend to still be in the water we are in today nonastando all the good ideas. For example when we did the Euro PR, we had photos and a good write up and send to all local papers, it just came as a short note on the Times after 2 weeks presented, and yet I consider that lucky.
So again I think it is time to start the ball rolling and who is willing can chime in, beware that there shall be a long queue and might you present the CV for such a post in the club ...
Joking apart so who would like to be in just forward your interest and we shall discuss this matter in our next committee meeting to follow up the agenda. And as Noel hinted if none come forward we remain as we are and please do not complain anymore ...

PR
A while ago I posted an early warning re letting me know the full list of awards... so that I could prepare a press release as I have done for euromilitaire well in advance of the others...
And I WARNED everyone to be fast so that we get our in first....
How many came back to me with the list of awards....yes u guessed ...nil
Now I have no trouble preparing a press release but I am not goping to run thru all the posts and websites trying to compile a list of some sort and risk leaving something out...All it took was everyopne winning something posting his tally.
So there is the end result hux...

That is another area that needs polishing! Members don't seem to co-operate! We have to get off our butts and dedicate that little bit of contribution.

We may be the greatest club................... but only we know that!!!!!!!!!!!
When I get into a conversation with someone they tell me "are you the ones of Catholic Inst" ...."NO!"......"are you the ones of Gasan Showroom"......"NO!... We make our exhibition at the Avation museum"
ME: "We go to international shows and win Gold medals"
HIM: "And there is one with you who make churches out of match sticks?" ..... "NO"!!!!
No matter what............ they still don't get it!!!!!!!! If it's not in the newspaper it doesn't exist!
Our efforts are in vain!!!
We either make a serious team of PRO ......... or we just enjoy a back seat view!
