Willie ask the USA pilots how it managed to dart between their planes in Vietnam ... MIG21s are magnificent birds and seeing one in the exotic middle eastern scheme shall be a treat, ejja Guz lestieh ghal Katanja!

It's a wonder that that plane even flew.
Still looking good Joseph.

it flew and is still flying in parts of the world. It was an export success for mig, with most of the eastern bloc countries and to all that russians assisted in the world.

Small wings... which is why it was bad for dogfighting! i was lucky enough to see 4 in Riat05 it was the mostly exported airplane ever..

Re: Mig-21 - work in progress
the mig 21 might not be state of the art today, but it was a respectable oponent in its days. It has been shoot down in combat in numbers but in its defense it has shot down also a respectable number of aircraft. It was the work horse of the warsaw pact and its allies as much as the phantom was to the west in its day, and like the F-16 today.

Re: Mig-21 - work in progress
Was the lightning influenced by the MIG design as I see a lot of similarity especially in the nose part?
Regarding the MIG21 as Joe said was a very respected oponent, find out what the Israelis felt especially when they managed to have one for trial ... and to here an Israeli fighterpilot say that he enjoyed and respect this oponent surely it means a lot ... like the T55 tank this is an icon of postwar production.

William, one of my "regrets" of switching to the "dark side" was that I never managed to build a MIG21 during my heydays as it is one of my favourites the FW190 is another "regret" as is the Hurricane to name a few
However thanks to your Dad and whenever a DECENT PILOT is available, I can patch up those "regrets" as best as I can

Re: Mig-21 - work in progress
the mig 21 was an excellent aircraft as regards to flying but it had a major drawback when it came down to the reason it was built for, an unreliable weapon system.

Re: Mig-21 - work in progress
Due to its small wingspan(small fuel tanks) it also had a problem with range and small weapon load area. During dogfights if the pilot rolls the aircraft too fast it could easily enter an auto rotation which was very difficult to recover from.

What scale are you considering about the eurofighter, if it is 48th scale, revell eurofighter is a modern tooling and reasonably detailed. About prepainted photoetch parts, really do not like them very much personally.

yes the 1/48th scale. I heard that trumpeteer are going to release a typhoon in 1/48th scale. Is it true?

Re: Mig-21 - work in progress
I have never used the prepainted parts myself but from the builds i have seen, they look damn good and the result is very nice indeed. i was thinking of getting some to try out.

Mig-21, minor update - wheel bays.
Added some piping detail with copper wire and plastic.
