Question for acrylic painters........ help! Empty Question for acrylic painters........ help!

    Hi all.... I'm back!

My modelling mojo had left me for about 9 months but two days ago it came back and I'm now into-it again!

I need a bit of help.... the question is...

Painting with acrylics. I mix the base coat and than start to add a lighter colour for the highlights. The problem is that sometimes when I mix colours together, one of the colours breaks up into tiny specks. When I try to paint with it, I can see the specks on the paint brush and when I apply it to the mode it is a disastrous effect!

Am I diluting the paint with water too much?
Is it because the paints are not compatible (it happened with Vallejo/Vallejo and Vallejo/Andrea)

    Regards
    Noel

    Welcome back Mr Finch tongue

Noel is it happening to all mixes? ... might you have old paint or you are not mixing the bottle well! Vallejo have a tendency to keep satin ... contrary to Andrea which is matt ... I have an issue with a Maimeri black similar to your problem, ending with a complete gloss effect instead of matt in the highlight areas but the problem was the particular tube, might have been old and I had not mixed properly aswell!

    Hi Ivan,

my problem is not the paint being satin. It does not happen with all the mixes only with some colours. THe problem I have is when I mix together the colours it turns into "frak" (bil Malti) it's like the pigment turns into tiny little dust... it's like it is not fine enough.

    Anybody experianced this problem?

My dear friend I have an answer for you......the bottles of paint you are using for these particular mixes have seen their day. throw them away and get new ones !!!! I have a few myself. I mix Vallejo with andrea/Maimeri all the time. I have some issues with a couple of Andrea colours. they have minute specks of sandlike particles. Get rid of them cause they will drive you nuts
