    Need advice from you guys...

Is it worth hiring a car?

We can get a very reasonable rate - but I hear the buses are pretty good and we can get weekly go anywhere tickets?

Car would give us total freedom - but do most car parks charge and could it actually be a hindrance?

    What would you do?

    Iain

Iain, please rent a car as it gives you the freedom you won't ever get with even British Buses let alone with the Arriva Bendy Buses which your honourable London Mayor boasted of having got rid of & offloaded them in the streets of Malta Sad Sad Sad

agree 100% with Ray Iain. You will get nowhere with the buses and waste half your holiday.

Most parking areas are free, though congested areas like Sliema and Valletta have private parking which I advice to use, the amount of time you shall spent trying to find a slot will be wasted in fuel ... certain towns have areas with a parker attendent[not Richard III] and is advisable to tip them [a Euro or less is enough].

By the way in Valletta just opened a new museum dedicated to Fortifications from Medeival to WW2, it is very interesting curated by Dr Stephen C Spiteri an authority on Fortifacations and is full of scale models ... worth a visit.

One last(ish) question - child booster seats in cars - are they a legal requirement in Malta?

Sorry about all the questions - but you can't beat inside knowledge!

What do you mean by stitching Iain, do you mean a good haberdashery? If that is what you are looking for i know of one at Hamrun, main road up from the main church but on the other side and also a good one at San Gwann, close to St. Julian's.

Hi all - thank you once again for your hospitality at the club last week - apologies for not making it this week - we simply ran out of time and have been without Internet connection Sad

Off back to blighty first thing tomorrow - but will see some of you again at Telford in November (wrap up well!) - please call by my 32SIG stand if I haven’t already found you!

Nannu - thanks for offer of lift - sorry I couldn’t take you up on it! Look forward to seeing your latest project completed!!

Brian - thanks for your telephone calls/time at the club - really appreciated. Just shout if you need anything from UK (photos/research/materials etc. (goes for all of you)).

Wayne, Hubert - will drop you emails when I get back for your addresses so I can send decals/kits discussed.

Tancred - sorry I didn’t realise that was your Christian name! Wink

Stephen - awesome figures - very inspiring!

Apologies if I’ve got anyone’s name wrong - and to those whose names I’ve missed out (trying to type in hurry on free WiFi in Rabat).

Will definately come back some time - think we’ve managed a lot of Malta in terms of places to visit (over 600 miles in the hire car!) and fired up with enthusiasm to tackle a few Maltese subjects modelling-wise.

    Have fun...
