    TAMIYA 1 48 F-4D SKYRAY Photo10

This is going to be my new project. I have a softspot for the post war era especially subjects related to U.S.A. This kit is extremely good with sharp detail and crisp plastic. Everything fits well. I'm not sure if I will opt for some aftermarkets or build it straight from the box. Also I'm not sure about which markings I'm going to apply.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The instructions says that the cokpit must be painted all black but this photo shows that part of it is grey. Any suggestions ?? and what type of grey is that ?

No iddeas about US FS colours but that tamiya bottle is RAL panzer grey for WW2 german tanks and very dark grey it is ... it is good to replicate tyre colours for example ...

The instructions suggest that the cockpit should e finished in semi gloss. However as the cockpit is weathered should I stick with the instructions or should I apply a matt varnish ?

Thanks Marco. Is it good practice to use Alclad Matt finish on enamels. I got the Testors one but I don't like it. Any other suggestions?

Are you diluting the paint enough?  Suspect

Maybe you need to alter the proportion of paint to thinner like a 25/75 mix or even less to a 15/85ish mix  Shocked

Tamiya instructions suggest that the upper fuselage must be painted Tamiya XF-66 light grey but it seems that it is way too dark - more like Dark Sea Grey. Anyone can suggest any authentic colour please ?

In my opinion any white ..will do ... never see differnt white's unless it's an old white paint.... scratch

Finally an update. So Fuselage halves are together and opted for extended wings vs folded. There was a huge step between the main wing and the folded one, so a lot of sanding, filling and rescribing of the panel lines and hinges was required

Here's a close up image of the cockpit.

    TAMIYA 1 48 F-4D SKYRAY Dsc_4012

The seat looked a little sparse so I added cushions from plastic cards

    TAMIYA 1 48 F-4D SKYRAY Dsc_3910

A mixture of scratch built and photo etch safety belts were added.
