Re: Two Me 163 komets
Hi guys, still working on my diorama although i missed the bus for Euro. Well actually i missed the plane. Here is some more work i did on it. I will be posting pics of the subsassemblies as i work on them until it is all made up. First up are the pics of the first comet with two mechanics working on it. Well actually they should be working on it but their attention is drawn to the activity going on on the other comet, ie. the paiting or rather repainting of the red plane. That will be the centre of attention of the story. so you can say that these two guys are hiding under the comet looking at the spraying operation.
The last pics are of the work i am doing on the main wall of the hangar/workshop. I have already put in the electrical installation and i guess the contractor was pretty good because he did some neat work. There is the main electrical switchgear to the extreme left of the wall, metal trunking at high level. There are the switches for the hangar lighting, socket outlets over the work benches and siolator switches for the workshop machines or tools.
The last photo shows the water supply mains installation which will provide water for a sink for washing up and also wash up points for the general washing. I am making all the fittings just as if it were an actual installation, obviously in plastic not in galvanized steel. Hope you like it. It takes time!

Dawk il-pipijiet tal-acorn Brian?
By the way as you are taking this project at a slower pace and makes sense, why not invest a little bit more planning and make this a shadow box or a box diorama, this project cries out to ge one, and as it is an interior subject it is a perfect idea for a box dio, just adding a couple of leds to create those disired shadows and it would be a showstopper ... By the way box dios are something not yet handled by our club ...

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Ivan i thought of that but i suppose you would need a roof that wall is way too low for a hangar roof. It is the highest i can take it if ever i want to take it abroad as hand luggage so making a box would look stupid with a very low roof indeed. Let me carry on with what i have in mind and then when it is done tell me what i could do Anyway, the lighting for the hangar would be in the ceiling anyway so i would not need to touch the sides.
We would need to talk but we hardly ever meet up.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
No you can still do a box diorama how it is, box dioramas are jot doll houses you need to show all, working proper lighting and proper perspective one can camoflage the whole idea of heights ... The only thing of box dioramas you have to watch everything from the front ... shep Paine, Marijn van Gils and Joe Shcley are masters of this art ....

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Marco and Ivan, that is something that i fear will happen with a box dio. I have tons of detail to put in and the field of view is restricted to only one area. i will finish what i have in mind and then we'll see, all i would need to do is box it in and provide the appropriate lighting. But i have hardly started on the detail, there is so much to go in there, you will see as i go along. this is going to be the first true diorama i have ever produced and obviously the last one, it took too much to make.

That is a clear statement you have no idea what a diorama is Marco if you want a model to show off detail make it stand alone and put it on a mirror to give the viewer more choice to see what is hidden ( aka museum piece display style) BUT if you are planning a dio, the story is the main subject, the other things are a bonus to embelish the story, not that detail is not important but the display can't be in a way that the detail overpowers the story ... the viewer first have to take the bait of the story then enjoy viewing the minute details that help to embelish the story ... you can't have both worlds but a balanced one yes ... and sacrificies have to be made ... I fell in that trap myself. When I did Fear the tank has a complete interior as I thaught it was needed in that position ... but most of the detail now is hidden to the naked eye ...
The modeller has to make the choice of what he wants to make both ideas are good but finally depends what we wants ... Personally I find an ideal solution to one year show off the solo model so everyone can see the work involved, then put it in a dio and tell the story ... But that is my opinion ...

Prosit Brian,
A superbly constructed model diorama.
I think that I will spend hours looking at the pictures and appreciate your artwork.

Re: Two Me 163 komets
Thanks a lot guys and am i glad you like it. I also spend a long time looking and what you produce and your great projects. Paul, i really miss your regular updated with the ship, i really used to treat those as modeling lessons and they are sorely missed. I hope you carry on with that fantastic build. here are more progress pics. The wall is done and ready for painting. That is up next. Everything you see is scratchbuilt. i hope that the painters are as good as the services contractors. Everything you see is scratchbuilt and home made including the water valves for washing and the bib tap and sink. I hope that you like it.

Good morning Brian,
Now the contractor, must commission and hand over the system to you, including the As-Fitted drawings and the O&M Manuals.
Prosit Brian, a brilliant job, especially the bib tap and the cleaners sink. The electrical conduits and switches are a wonder.

This is such fun Paul, a total change to the aircraft, i am having a blast doing this stuff and there are so many more details to go yet, furniture, workshop tools and machines and a most beautiful model of a bicycle i have ever yet laid eyes on. Now the fun really begins. i will post pics as i go along and complete part by part.
