This is Out of This World Brian Twisted Evil

That Acorn piping is so REAL Suspect

I think what Ivan is suggesting really makes sense..that is one year you exhibit it as a fully exposed Dio & the next display it as a Boxed Dio, which this year was amiss at Euro Evil or Very Mad

As you said, finish it 1st & then see what comes around bounce

Re Dioramas, again Ivan knows what he's saying I'm afraid....look at any Good Diorama & as soon as you look at it your eyes are drawn to what the Author wants you to see, then your eyes drift to the FILLERS, which may be detail per se or people as for example the Best of Show at Euro "The Kings Death" your eyes are IMMEADETLEY drawn by the fallen dying king, then your eyes wander to the surrounding figures affraid

In a Boxed Dio, again you have to sacrifice what is gonna be hidden for what makes the most impact on the viewer Cool

Coming out really good Brian, just a little suggestion I would weather a bit the painted lettering, or dry brush a little with the wall colour or sand it down a bit to reveal the underlay paint, not much just that little to give it a painted look and a bit of aging ... The pipelayout is damn impressive looks like real metal work ... Bravo this gonna look great when ready!

ivan i think that the weathering is already overdone. From photos it seems as if they were kept very clean and neat. no dirt or staining on the walls but i put some to give it some character and a used feeling.

The detail on the aircraft is really something, and the diorama is coming along nicely, a lot of great detail put into the walls and I know you're having a blast on this, your most detailed diorama so far. Did the Luftwaffe have propaganda/motivational/girly posters on hangar walls? Don't remember if I've seen pictures inside their hangers like this?

Yes that is the idea not to make it overweathered but to give it the look of painted on walls look and not to be so prestine and eye catching ( was refering to the text only). Were these walls bricks or metal as that would be another issue to note. If you need any posters as suggested let me know.

Ivan i will try to take up your suggestion with the lettering. I will tell you once again all the photos show neat lettering, that no smoking sign was standard in all the hangars and repeated all over the place. I did fade the red paint and it has various hues which you cannot see in the photos. I will try to sand it a bit see what happens but it was one hell of a job to mask and paint those letters, i would not want to ruin them.

as for the posters, that is something i will be adding since i did not see any in any of the photos i have. But i think they will look good. I found a couple of Luftwaffe posters on the net and i was going to put up two. there weren;t many posters with luftwaffe themes it seems.

Walls were bricks, some were metal. Most of the hangars had a mix of brick and metal walls it seems and the other wall i am making will be in corrugated sheeting with steel supporting structure as per photos. It is nearly done.

That is why I asked about the material, if that is the case I will leave everything as is, metal sheeting would behave different to paint ... on another note what did you do to mask a sticker frisket or computer cutting?

Laughing Laughing , that is a long and frustrating story if you care to listen to it. First I looked for decals and I had red ones but they were too big. Then I bought stickers which were the right size. That is the lettering you see now. I sprayed the area red and put in the stickers using them as masks and sprayed the walls white but i was unhappy with this because:
No matter how much i sprayed the area, the red showed through.
Because of the thickness of the white paint, there was a very pronounced edge to the lettering.

So off came everything, sanded down to the plastic, which took a long time due to the pipes which were already glued in place and used the backing of the letters to mask. I resprayed the wall in white (actually that colour is cream, a yellowish off white) and then cut out the sticker backing into individual letters. these were placed on the wall and all around them was masked properly. Then i sprayed them red in about 3 shades. That is about it. So you see why i would not like to screw them up now. They took two sessions over two days to complete.

Your insane LOL! Next time go to a sign shop and ask to make a computer cut lettering size and text as you need it on frisket sticker and you would have avoided this torture, letraset is another option but red lettering are hard to get ... and no matter what nothing beats spraying the real thing ...

Some more progress pics. First up is the second (and Last) wall. This is a corrugated sheeting/steel structure and might have also been a door. However, from the photos it looks big. The corrugated sheeting is cardboard (a wine box) which i coated in PVA glue before painting using metallizers. The steelworks are plastic and cost a small fortune. I had to put in some rust because there were some pretty nasty dents in the sheet metal.

Next up is the pilot's seat from the detailed 163. It has been taken out of the aircraft. The seat is a modified Bf109F resin seat and the seat belts are from Radu Brinzan.

The whole setting really brings the model to life.... it tells a story and it's no longer a static model.

I love it Brian, inspiring as usual.
