Norev

At SpotModel we are always open to the suggestions, needs and ideas of all of you. Thanks to that, we created solutions like PrintLab, we incorporated trucks, we invented functionalities like Color Finder, to name just a few. Now, for several moons many of you have asked us to incorporate 1/18 scale die-cast models into SpotModel. Well, we have rolled up our sleeves and got into it.

We are going to start including cars from the French renowned manufacturer Norev, and... what will you find? Basically European cars, especially French, in 1/18 scale. We will announce the new releases several months in advance so that you have time to make your product reservations, but remember that very few units are produced and they are practically discontinued within a few days of being produced. What does this mean? Well, if you are sure that you want a specific model, you'd better reserve it as soon as possible or you may end up without it.

Are you interested in other manufacturers? Maybe other scales? Don't worry, you won't have to wait many more moons to see more die-cast brands and models at SpotModel.

Better weeks

Every year we go to the Nuremberg Toy Fair, in Germany, eager to see all the new releases that manufacturers offer in plastic models, but this year has been very very very weak in our sector. Nothing new that had not been mentioned several months ago, just the occasional reissue that is almost unnoticed, and that's all friends. Ok then, we get on the plane back to home, we're sure we'll find something to put the smile back in our faces at the SpotModel warehouse.

Indeed, the 1/12 scale model of the Lotus 99T has FINALLY arrived, GREAT! But a problem has occurred with the detail-up sets: due to an incident during the ship transit, almost all of them have arrived almost destroyed, so we have to wait again several months until they manufacture and ship new units. We will have to be patient...

What else do we have here? We have received a huge supply from Top Studio, but the products sold out in a single day more or less. So if you haven't had time, you'll have to wait for the next supply.

Anything else? Yes, Zero Paints is overwhelmed by the huge demand and they are not able to produce paint at the rate we all need, so again they have to delay their supplies. Luckily, in this case we still have the Number Five alternative for most of the tones, so you can give them a try (if you haven't done so yet) and for sure they will surprise you for good :-)

Anyway, it is a bittersweet newsletter this week, but instead of stopping us, it makes us want to go on through the storm. If it is not at Nuremberg it will be somewhere else, but at SpotModel we continue looking for the best and newest for you.

Black

Black? Black glue? Who needs a black glue? Does it make any sense? Why and what is the purpose of a glue that is visible once it is dry? Great modeling questions to which we are going to give you some answers.

Besides the usual gluing, a black glue also helps to make it visible. Yes, that's right. And what's the point of seeing a drip of black glue on our models if that's exactly what we've always tried to avoid at all costs? Well, Japanese modelers, who are the most daring on the planet, have realized that using black cyanoacrylate you can perfectly see what the surface looks like after applying glue, something that does not happen with the transparent one. And what do they use that for? Well, beyond just gluing, they use it to fill small gaps and surfaces in such a way that the file and sandpaper work is really quick and easy. How smart are these guys!!!

This has led us to add Colle21's black Cyanoacrylate to our long list of products, which will arrive to SpotModel shelves in the next few days.

The boss is very very very excited since RCBooks told us know that they have a new book ready, this time about nothing less than the Lancia Rally 037, with their usual printing quality, information density, pictures and illustrations, all in 512 gorgeous pages.

You can now reserve the book at SpotModel, and with a little luck (if the strikes across Europe allow it) they will be on our shelves by the end of this month of February. Later, aproximately by late March, we will receive the numbered and autographed Limited Edition, which includes 20 additional fine art prints.

But there is more, since there will be a small, even more limited print run called Owner's Edition that, in addition to the above, will also include a 3D printed model of the vehicle's chassis (Stradale, EVO1 and EVO2, depending of the product) that has been produced by KMP. It will be a really very exclusive series that will soon be available for pre-order at SpotModel. Kreidler

Kreidler's Metall und Drahtwerke was founded in Germany in 1903 and years later, in 1951, began building motorcycles. They evolved until they achieved the most cutting-edge engines in the motor racing world in the 70s, which helped them win no less than nine 50cc world championships.

In those glorious years of Kreidler there were other leading engine manufacturers that developed engines in 125cc and 250cc that were really interesting, such as Morbidelli, Minarelli, Garelli, MotoBi and Ossa. Engines that the manufacturer Brach Model already recreated for their 1/12 scale models, but that are now released as an independent reference so that all scale modellers who love mechanics can enjoy them. What a great idea!!!

The engines, made of resin, have the usual quality, exquisite detail and extensive breakdown that is so common for the brand. In a few weeks we will have them in our warehouse, but if you wish you can reserve them now.

Speed Trials

We know Jabbeke because it hosts the largest civil scale modeling event in Europe, an unmissable event that takes place this weekend, and of course we are going to attend with our friends and our scale models.

It is a small, quiet city near the sea, located next to the highway, that has a peculiar role in the history of the automobile that we love: it still preserves a small part of what was once a road that, at the end of the 1940s and early 1950s, became the chosen destination for British vehicle speed trials and saw world records being set by a wide variety of cars.

After the Second World War, the Brussels-Oostende motorway, a flat, straight road with good asphalt, was the perfect place to carry out speed tests. Thanks to this, half of all land speed records were broken at the time. Well-known faces such as Donald Healey, Goldie Gardner, Sir William Lyons and Stirling Moss were seen there and machines such as the Jaguar XK120, the Sunbeam Alpine, the Triumph TR2 and the Pegaso Z102 SL smashed the speed record over and over.

Happy guys

Put several thousand models together, include several hundred modelers from all over Europe, add in a perfect organization and... what do you get? A bunch of totally happy guys who go home with a big smile on their face that lasts for several weeks. It's the magic of the annual event held in Jabbeke this past weekend, where we enjoyed what we like most: drinking beers... XDD

Well, we also talked a lot about models, decals, photo-etched parts, tools, we admired our friends' models, we met new attendees and we took the opportunity to buy one box or two... We scale modelers are like that.

There, the best of the best of European modeling was seen, with brutal scratch-made trucks, fiction vehicles, giant dioramas, 3D printed or resin cast or centrifuged metal or injected plastic scale models... many motorcycles, many cars, many trucks and the best: many good friends.

Refueling

Nowadays, the usual thought among drivers in motorsport competitions is "I'll go one more lap and stop in the pits to refuel", knowing that the liters of precious liquid they need are waiting for them there. But this has not always been so. There was a time when the thought was more like "I don't even have time to finish this lap, I should have put more fuel at the gas station..."

It was a time when gasoline did not go towards the racing machines, but instead the racing machines were the ones that had to go to the gas station for refueling. Something unthinkable today in formula 1, for instance... but luckily, times change.

DAB Models has looked back and offers us in 1/24 scale three of the most used gasoline pumps in gas stations located on racing circuits, designed in great detail, produced with 3D printing and with the necessary decals included. In addition, the brand tells us that they are working on other accessories of the time, which we are eagerly awaiting to be able to decorate and complete our bases, vignettes and dioramas.

Recursion

Have you ever heard of the term recursion? The dictionary defines it as "a process by which a function calls itself repeatedly, until some certain condition is satisfied", and this is something that in the world of IT and computing is used for calculations in which each action is determined by a previous result. Fascinating...

Now, does recursion exist in scale modeling? Great question to which modeling philosophers have not found an answer... until today. As we said, today the boss has discovered that recursion DOES exist in scale modeling!

The thing is that the boss is working with the dashboard of a racing car, which he built out of the box. Once finished he saw that it was fine, but... that it could be improved with some scratch pieces and adding some decals from the scrap drawer, so he had to file and start again. And he was very happy with the new result. But then it turns out that he found some pictures of the dashboard of the original car, and it turns out that the scale model was wrong, so he had to file again and start again... Everything was then fantastic, very similar to the real vehicle. But a few days later some new pieces and color tones arrived at SpotModel that would be perfect... File again and start again... Pure and simple recursion (and a lot of patience) XD

Peterbilt Detroit Diesel

The Detroit Diesel Series 60 is a magnificent six-cylinder in-line diesel engine produced between 1987 and 2011 which was revolutionary on its beginnings because for the first time an electronic control system was fitted in an engine intended for road transport vehicles.

This mechanical heart was used in thousands and thousands of American trucks, which has led GP Modeling to undertake a scale reproduction of a complete and detailed engine designed specifically for the 1/24 scale models of Peterbilt series 377 and 378 trucks by both Italeri and Revell.

The product, made up of more than 30 parts, is printed with 3D technology (the parts are supplied with their printing brackets) and includes a decal sheet (not pre-cut) that reproduces the service labels of the different components. The recreated engine version is the 12.7 liter in DDEC IV (Detroit Diesel Electronic Control) configuration, which has the alternator and air conditioning compressor support plate on the right side.

30 years

30 years have passed already since the last race of Ayrton Senna, possibly the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time. Time flies indeed... it seems like yesterday when we watched the race live and were shocked by the fatal accident.

To commemorate this sad but historic anniversary, the guys at MFH have decided to release a limited edition of 200 units in 1/12 scale of the FW16 based on the previous reference that they already published at the time, but adding some important improvements as new metal parts or decals with a reviewed and corrected design, printed by Cartograf.

We have already opened the preorder period and surely there will not be enough for everyone because it is a special edition, with a very short and very limited production by Model Factory Hiro.

If you had in mind to buy a motorcycle and you were interested in the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, what the salesperson would tell you at the dealership (or what you could read about it) would be something like this: "A motorcycle to discover the world, to live the adventure. It is the queen of enduro travel, born for the most difficult terrain, adverse conditions and the most distant destinations. Of course, optimizing comfort and high standards for long journeys."

Meng has reproduced this motorcycle in 1/9 scale, and we finally have it available on the shelves of SpotModel. If we took the advertising text of the real motorcycle and wanted to adapt it to our 1/9 scale version we could say: "A new model is always a new adventure. Meng's R 1250 GS Adventure is currently the queen of novelties. Designed for the most demanding modellers, but optimized, thanks to the high number of parts, for all types of modellers". And indeed, just by taking a look at the exploded view pictures that we have added to the product page and seeing those rims... it certainly puts a silly smile on your face
