I have decided to re-do the prop in real wood, so here are some shots explaining the process.

Under this mass of iron Smile are wooden laminations (5 ply) glued together

The outline is drawn onto the laminated wood.

Prop taking shape by carving and sanding. By the way I have also cut off a piece of my finger affraid

If you notice any aliens in the background (even in the previous post) those used to belong to the kids and I have salvaged them from the bin and kept as mascots.

Realism in miniature, lamination process as the real thing ... looking forward to see this beauty finished ...

What wood are you using Joe as the grain is so fine?

The dark wood is mahagoney for sure, the light one is some wood that my dad uses for his ships, but I do not know the name.
