HMS King George V

I am just getting started on my HMS King George V (KGV). I have not built a ship model in over 30 years. I usually do airplane models (see the aircraft forum for some of my work). Well here goes.

I had no idea of the amount of pre-painted need to be done on ship models! It looks like about 2 more weeks of this before I can start any building on the kit. This is going to be an OOB build. No aftermarket or PE on this build. (I have seen what some modelers do with the stuff and it blows me away!)














I also have the Bismarck and the New Jersey on my "to build" shelf. This one is a "Let's see how hard these guys are" If all goes well with this and the Bismarck I will look into the PE sets for the New Jersey.

I got all three kits for $100 at a model shop, they didn't have instructions I was told. Turns out the NJ did and I emailed Tamiya and had photocopies of the instructions mailed to me in less than 2 weeks. All three kits should have sold for about $280 total!

Well just about ready to attach the decks to the hull. The hull is complete. I have hand painted all the details on the decks today (mind numbing!) I have to add misc detail parts next then attach the decks... (the coke can is for scale)













All the little round things with blue bottoms are not hot tubs, they are future 20mm gun mounts...

very crisp and very clean job.....it's a beautiful ship I have enjoyed building her...we will turn u ovr to a marine modeller next lol lol

I was able to get some more done on the KGV this weekend... I have touch up painting to do tomorrow night...



Had to paint the upper edge of the hull all the way around by hand missed it when spray painting.Oh well, note to self for next model....

Been at it for the last several nights..

I see pieces ... lots of tiny pieces....















The build as come to an abrupt halt now. I have seemingly 100's of little guns to paint now and misc paint touch up on the ship it self.

Have most of the guns on her now...
