Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
It's getting there but I'm dreading the paint job. It's not particularly difficult as there is practically no camo but I don't want to mess it up after all this work!
The good thing is that there are a limited number of panels, most of them large so shading should be easier.

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
U ejja Wayne, there is no mottle and very simple camo scheme. Don't go overboard with shading and weathering, these planes were not used much and did not weather like other fighters. Take a look at some period pics and you will see. Unless you go for a partially painted specimen, the normal squadron planes were not so weathered so go for just subtle weathering and shading. Some hardly fired their guns at all.

Just completed the gun bay:
I'm pretty pleased with the result but I'll let the experts give judgement

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
I was going to Brian... I'm just looking for information to see what material was used for that particular door. Many of the opening panels were made out of wood, including the undercarriage doors, and that is why they were painted in RLM 02. I'm not 100% sure about the gun bay door though.
Maybe Skyhigh can work his magic and find me an answer
But yes you're right... it needs some chipping. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Small, but significant, update
Wings and tail were fixed to the fuselage yesterday before going to bed.
Every little helps
Marco, I went back to the Classic Pub. book yesterday and yes, there are inconsistencies with respect to "White 5". In palaces they refer to Wk Nr 310078 as "White 5" and in others as "Yellow 5". Furthermore, 310078 is an A-1 with MK108 cannons which is not what I'm building (an A-2).
I do not know how Classic Pub identified this aircraft as 310078, as none of the photos of the line up at Leck (where this a/c was captured) show the aircraft's tail close enough to identify the number.
Anyway, the White 5 I'm looking for is Wk. Nr. 310018 which some sources say never arrived at Leck airfield in the first place. So I'm on a mission to find any photographs showing 'my' so to speak White 5 to try and identify the colours.

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Have a look at the intake... it's painted the same colour.
Then again, these pictures of White 23 where taken in the USA after it was shipped from Germany. The tail is actually from another 162. I have pictures that were taken in Germany that show White 23 with a different Wk Nr.
I think I will be going with this scheme, maybe with a metal finish on the intake. I must admit however that I kind of like the official RLM spec camo, with alternating colours for the wings and control surfaces! But, I don't think that White 5 wore this official scheme so I will probably go for the former.
Thanks for helping out Skyhigh!

Have a look at the elevators in this pic:
This 162 is in a Canadian Museum, it looks unrestored even though it has no tactical markings:
