The first round of sanding is coming up and I have a question. Do I apply another gloss coat after sanding before applying the decals?

Wayne, AKAIK, in my heydays as a Wing Nut, I used to apply the decals after the first round of sanding the gloss, then apply another gloss coat on the decals, wash in the panel lines, 2nd round of sanding & final coat of matt
Hope this makes sense

Rigward id decals, naqbel li tghati coat iehor to gloss wara li tkun xkatlajt. Il wicc tal mudel irid jkun mera jekk trid li d decals joqodu sew u ma jigux jidru, jista jkun he mm bzonn aktar layer ta gloss imma ikunsidra I'll washes ukoll.

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Wayne just saw your post, sorry but i did not even have time to switch on my computer at home yesterday. If you sanded the first coat of gloss and are satisfied with the smoothness and the result i normally do not apply more gloss but just put on the decals. there is normally no problem with this especially if you use some decal solution. then just apply more gloss coats over the decals only so that you can sand that area and work them into the paint finish. you keep on applying gloss and sand till you don;t see the decal edge when you look against the light. Go easy with the sanding because i have ruined many a decal with that extra stroke. So better less sanding and more gloss sessions. that is the way to go. By the way you should have applied your wash before sanding the gloss coat. That is what i normally do. then i just apply more wash where there are the decals only. when you are happy with the decals, apply a final gloss coat so that you can put in any weathering you want like exhaust gun stains, streaking etc. If you make a mistake, the final thin gloss coat will allow for some sanding to remove your mistake. When all is done, final matt coat and you are done. dont; try to hurry now cause you'll ruin all your efforts. give the gloss a chance to set before sanding. Remember, in modeling there are no short cuts. there is only one way to do things, the right way so be patient, better to take some more time than ruin everything in the end. hope this helps. Sorry i did not post earlier. But when you get stuck, just phone me and i will help you out best i can. up to you now.

Re: He 162 Salamander 1/32
Thanks Brian,
That's exactly along the lines of what the others told me last week at the club. Opinions differ as to when to apply the washes but all in all its the same process.
Anyway, today I was on leave and here's what I managed to accomplish...
There is some silvering on some of the decals unfortunately and I'm having a nightmare with lint and dust. Its even more evident in the photos!
Next up are some more coats of gloss varnish in preparation for the final washes.

Very nice work so far Wayne
Don't worry, if you apply enough gloss & sand CAREFULLY down, the final matt finish will mend whatever
